Lorraine Watne, 89, passed away on Thursday, April 14, 2011, surrounded by her loving family at Sanford Medical Center in Thief River Falls, Minnesota.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 19, 2011 at Ekelund Lutheran Church in rural Goodridge, Minnesota with Rev. Robert Dahlen officiating. Burial will follow at Star Cemetery in Star Township in Pennington County, Minnesota.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m., Monday, April 18, 2011 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to the funeral service at the church on Tuesday.

Lorraine Sylvina Lunden was born on November 3, 1921 to Osmund and Alice (Hovet) Lunden in Deer Park Township in Pennington County, Minnesota. She was baptized and confirmed at Oak Park Lutheran Church. She attended school in Goodridge, where she graduated from high school in 1939.

Lorraine was united in marriage to Lloyd Oleander Watne on October 6, 1940. They spent the early years of their marriage in Gully, Gonvick, Trail, and Bremerton, Washington, before moving to the Watne Farm in rural Goodridge. The growing family then spent a few years living on the Iron Range, where Lloyd worked in the mines. Upon returning to the family farm in rural Goodridge, Lorraine worked next to her husband raising cattle and small grain. She also worked in Thief River Falls at Land OLakes, Arctic Cat, and the WorkForce Center with the Green Thumb Program, until retiring at 80 years of age.

Lorraine was an avid reader, enjoyed writing, gardening, cooking, baking, and welcoming visitors with a fresh cup of coffee. She was a member of Ekelund Lutheran Church and the ladies aid. Family meant the world to Lorraine and she treasured the time she spent with them.

Lorraine is survived by five children: Larry (Margaret Taylor) Watne, Alexandria, MN, Linda (Howard) Hanson, Trail, MN, Lyle (Charlotte Kroska) Watne, Alexandria, MN, Lonnie Watne, Goodridge, MN, Lowell (Sherrlene) Watne, East Grand Forks, MN; 13 grandchildren: Tammy (Lynn) Schmelling, Hinkley, MN, Loren (Lori) Watne, Grand Rapids, MN, Laurie (Dean) Bentley, Watkins, MN, Jimmy (Melissa) Watne, Eagan, MN, Shannon (Jessie) Watne, Creswell, OR, Wendy (Jeff) Thrane, Front Royal, VA, Joanne (Todd Jenson) Olson, Thief River Falls, MN, Dean (Naomi) Hanson, Trail, MN, Luane Hanson, Trail, MN, Denise (Jamie) Hanson, Clearbrook, MN, Jaclyn (Jamie Lunsetter) Watne, East Grand Forks, MN, David (Jenny Hahn) Watne, East Grand Forks, MN, Brittany (Bennett Boushee) Watne, East Grand Forks, MN; 17 great-grandchildren: Chelsey, Courtney, Tyler, Matthew, Ariel, Austin, Wyatt, Tyler, Faith, Clancy, Carter, Gracie, Tucker, Hailee, Zachery, Addyson, and Tori; three sisters: Alvina Gordon-Bakke, Bremerton, WA, Ordell Morley, Bremerton, WA, and Doris (Dallas) Erickson, Bremerton, WA; brother-in-law Dennis Brundage, Scottsdale, AZ; two sister-in-laws: Donna Watne, Gonvick, MN and Pearl Watne, Gully, MN; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband Lloyd in 1978; her parents Osmund and Alice Lunden; daughter-in-law Kathy Watne; one sister LouAnn Brundage; three brothers Thorman Lunden, Dennis Lunden, and Elmer Lunden; granddaughter Paige Watne; brother-in-laws: Edwin Gordon, Norman Bakke, George Morley, Lewis Watne, Olaf Watne, and Lawrence Bud Watne; sister-in-laws: Gunda Syrtveit, Vivian Norgard, and Carrie Christensen.

Lorraine Watne passed away on Thursday, April 14, 2011, surrounded by her loving family at Sanford Medical Center in Thief River Falls, Minnesota at the age of 89 years, five months, and 11 days. Blessed be her memory.
