Louise Elizabeth Schindler was born 2 pounds 8 ounces and a twin on December 26, 1919 in Red Lake County on the farm home to John and Mary (Schmitz) Schindler. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Marys Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls. She attended country school through the 8th grade. Louise then worked for area families doing housekeeping.
On October 24, 1945, Louise was united in marriage to Joseph Kees at St. Marys Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls. To this union five children were born, Janice, Monica, Barbara, Edward and Margaret. They made their home on the Kees family farm which became a Century Farm in 1993. This was her home until October 12, 2010 when she moved to Hillcrest Senior Living.
From November 22, 1962 until December 21, 1984 Louise worked at Hillcrest Nursing Home. She started as a Tray Girl and worked herself up to Head Cook. In 1978 she was named Employee Of The Year. Louise had a passion for cooking, it was her life. Whether at work or home, no one left hungry, and her grandkids always went home with a treat sack. Her date-filled cookies and apple pies were the best.
Louise made over 115 quilts for family, friends and new babies. She enjoyed playing Canasta, teaching all of her grandchildren how to count. Louise also enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening and was known for her famous dill pickles. A special annual event was Christmas cookie baking with family on Thanksgiving weekend.
