Louise Mercil, 97 of Brooks, MN died on Tuesday, September 19, 2000 at McIntosh Manor Nursing home in McIntosh, MN. Arrangements with the Johnson Funeral Service in Red Lake Falls, MN.
Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, September 22, 2000 at 11:00 AM in the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Brooks, MN with Father Tim Bushy Officiating. Burial will be held in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery at Brooks, MN.
Visitation will be held on Thursday from 5 " 8 PM with a 7:30 prayer service and also one hour prior to services on Friday all at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Brooks, MN.
Louise Mercil was born June 28, 1903 at Poplar River Township, Red Lake County near Brooks, MN daughter of the late Peter and Idella (Turcotte) Champagne where she was raised and attended rural school. She was baptized in the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church at Lambert, MN. On November 24, 1921 she was united in marriage to Louis Mercil at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Brooks. The couple lived and farmed in the Brooks area all of their lives. They retired and moved into Brooks. Louis passed away on July 11, 1980. Louise moved into Valley Home in Thief River Falls in 1993 and since August 15, 1997 has resided at the McIntosh Manor Nursing Home in McIntosh, MN.
She was a member of the St. Anns Society, enjoyed crocheting, knitting, baking and was a very good cook. She always had a garden and canned and enjoyed a flower garden. Most of all Louise enjoyed her family.
She is survived by her children Don Mercil (Genevieve) of Townsend, WI; Everill Mercil (Annette) of Leesburg, FL; Lloyd Mercil of Thief River Falls, MN; Donna Bergeron (Willard) of Oklee, MN; Dellas Paradis (Ron) of Brooks, MN and Madeline Thibert (Parnell) of St. Charles, IL: 38 grandchildren, 94 great-grandchildren and 35 great-great grandchildren. Daughter in law Lorraine Mercil of Brooks, MN; three sisters in law Goldie Champagne of Minneapolis, MN; Marcilla Champagne of Madison, WI and Mary Louise Fournier of Crookston, MN; one brother in law Wilfred Mercil of Colorado Springs, CO.
Louise is preceded in death by her parents, husband Louis, 15 brothers and sisters, grandson Duane Bergeron, 2 great-granddaughters Christina McRae and Tonya Mercil.
