Lowell Hogberg, 92 of Thief River Falls, MN and Newfolden, MN died peacefully on Wednesday, August 03, 2016 at his residence with his loving family at his side.
Funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, August 6, 2016 at the Evangelical Free Church in Newfolden, MN with Pastor Gary Barrett officiating. Burial will be at Bethesda Cemetery, Marsh Grove Township, rural Newfolden, MN. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM with a 7:00 PM prayer service on Friday, August 5, 2016 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN.
Arthur Lowell Hogberg was born on June 16, 1924 in Wright Township, rural Argyle, MN the son of Arthur and Elvira (Johnson) Hogberg. He was known as Lowell throughout his life. He attended Riverside Country School in rural Argyle, Warren High School for one year and graduated from Argyle High School with the class of 1942.
Lowell farmed with his dad, Arthur on the family farm in Wright Township, Marshall County, MN where they raised small grains and had dairy cattle. On December 1, 1951, Lowell was united in marriage to Donna Mae Lind and they made their home on the Hogberg family farm. To this union four children were born, Daniel, David, Marinell and Myles. Lowell and Donna Mae also raised Alvina Kasprovicz through her school years and provided a home for Pamela K. Mitchell, Florian Lechner, Jon Brosdahl, Kitty Wallace and Christian Hofreiter. Lowell was also active with the Big Brother Program.
Lowell was a member of the Alma Lutheran Church and served on the Wright Township Board for over 20 years. In 1971 he and Donna Mae joined the Evangelical Free Church in Newfolden. Lowell was also a member of the Newfolden Lions Club was an EMT for a number of years and was a member of the Gideon's. He enjoyed fishing and hunting with his family and friends and was a handyman in the Newfolden Community.
Lowell had a faith in the Lord, Jesus Christ which was very important in his life. He was baptized into the Christian faith as an adult. He enjoyed teaching Sunday School, Bible Studies and singing and going on Mission Trips with his wife, Donna Mae. They went to Venezuela, Peru, Belgium and Tokyo, Japan. In 1996, Lowell and Donna Mae started going to Alamo, TX where they wintered in McKinley Park and Lowell worked construction at the Rio Grande Bible Institute in Edinburg, TX. Donna Mae died on May 11, 2000 and Lowell continued to spend winters at McKinley Park.
Following a brief engagement, on March 20, 2004, Lowell was united in marriage to Viola Miller at Bibleville in Alamo, TX. They made their summer home in Newfolden and their winter home in Alamo and continued to enjoy life together. Lowell and Vi did volunteer work at Taylor Christian School in McAllen, TX as well as sang in different groups in Bibleville. They did about everything together. In December of 2012 Lowell and Vi made their home in Thief River Falls, MN.
Survivors include his loving wife, Vi, Thief River Falls, MN; children, David (Pam) Hogberg, Sandstone, MN, Marinell Waterworth and Myles (Judy) Hogberg all of Newfolden; daughter-in-law, Peggy Hogberg, Thornton, CO; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; step-children, Kenneth (Nancy) Miller of Big Fork, MT, Linda (Frank) Baird, Phillip (Nancy) Miller, Keith (Mary) Miller and David (Judy) Miller all of Kalamazoo, MI; numerous step-children and step great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Donna Mae; son, Danny in 2013; sister, Doris Bagaas; and brothers-in-law, Selmer Anderson and Sanford Bagaas.
