Lowell "Tom" Peterson, 72, died Monday August 6, 2012 at Warroad Senior Living Center in Warroad, MN. Funeral service will be 11:00 AM on Friday, August 10, 2012 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Plummer, MN with Rev. Terri Cuppett and Rev. Jonathan Dodson officiating. Burial will be at Clara Lutheran Church Cemetery, River Falls Township, Pennington County, MN. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a 7:00 PM prayer service on Thursday, August 9, 2012 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN. Lowell Thomas Peterson was born November 11, 1939 at Thief River Falls, MN, the son of Richard Eric Anton and Alta (Weckwerth) Peterson. He was baptized and confirmed at Clara Lutheran Church. He attended Plummer School and graduated from Plummer high school in 1958. He worked the family farm with his father. Tom served his country in the United States Army from 1962 thru November of 1965. Following his honorable discharge, he once again worked on the family farm. In the fall of 1966, he attended the University of Minnesota-Crookston for 2 years, where he studied accounting and small business management. He worked for Sinclair Oil, Chicago, IL for a time and then went back to the farm. He moved to Roseau, MN and worked for Polaris in cost accounting and traffic control. Tom then went back to the University of Minnesota-Crookston for restaurant and hotel management, handling 70 credits in one year. In 1969, he became employed at Best Western, Thief River Falls, MN for 3 years. Then Tom moved to the family farm in Wyandotte Township, Pennington County. He was awarded many awards and trophies for his work with the dairy industry. In 2009 Tom moved to the Warroad Senior Living Center. He showed cattle at the Red River Valley Fair, North Dakota State Fair, Minot, ND, Minnesota State Fair, St. Paul, MN and World Dairy Expo, Madison, WI, served on the Board of Directors for Minnesota Milking Shorthorn Association for many years and served on the Board of Pennington Daily Improvement Association. His favorite pastime was cooking and growing flowers. Tom is survived by sisters: Mildred (Roland) Klamar, Gatzke, MN, Laura (Paul) Klamar, Gatzke, MN and Rosemarie Fulton, Warren, MN; brother: William O. Peterson, Plummer, MN; aunt, Donelda Arne of Virginia; uncle: Alan Weckwerth of Kansas; along with many nieces, nephews and cousins. He is preceded in death by parents; brother-in-law, Don Fulton on July 17, 2012; an infant sister, Lorraine; one nephew, one niece; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
