Lucil Simenson of Thief River Falls, MN age 84 died on Monday, June 16, 2014 at her residence. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a 7:00 PM prayer service on Thursday, June 19, 2014 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN. Visitation will also be held from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM on Friday at St. Bernard's Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, June 20, 2014 at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Thief River Falls, MN with Father Rick Lambert presiding. Burial will follow at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN at a later date. Lucil Anna Loeffler was born on April 6, 1930 in their farm house near Plummer, MN the fifth of seven children born to Joseph and Mary (Hagl) Loeffler. Due to bad country roads, the doctor couldn't get there until the next day. Lucil was baptized and confirmed into the Catholic faith. She attended school at Rosehill country, Knox Elementary, St. Bernard's Catholic School and graduated from Lincoln High School in Thief River Falls in 1948. After graduation, Lucil moved to Minneapolis, MN where she worked at a bank. At noon every day, Lucil would walk to the Federal Reserve with a bag full of money. Lucil returned to Thief River where she completed a nursing program and worked as a surgical nurse at the Thief River Falls hospital. On November 25, 1955, Lucil was united in marriage to George Simenson at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Thief River Falls. To this union five children were born; Mark was born in Thief River Falls in 1957, Debra was born in Seville, Spain in 1958, Connie was born in Seville, Spain in 1959, Claudia was born in North Sacramento, CA in 1960, and Charles was born in Reno, NV in 1962. The family traveled a great deal as a result of George's 21 years of service with the United States Air Force. In 1968 the Simenson family returned to rural Thief River Falls to live on a hobby farm where they raised their children. They had horses, cows, pigs, sheep, chickens, ducks, a rabbit and always a big garden. Lucil was a member of St. Bernard's Catholic Church and the VFW Auxiliary in Thief River Falls. She was active in Smiley 4-H with her children. Lucil enjoyed spending time in the kitchen. Her hobbies included sewing, knitting, quilting, cake decorating, horseback riding, restoring furniture, crossword puzzles, cryptoquip, going to the casino, and playing cards, especially pinochle and smear. In the later years, Lucil and George traveled many places together including, Hawaii, Japan, England, and throughout the United States and Canada. Lucil enjoyed visiting with relatives and especially playing with the children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Many of the kid's friends even called her grandma. Survivors include her loving husband of 58 years, George of Thief River Falls; 4 children, Debra (David) Davidson of Thief River Falls, Connie (Lee) Wensole of Plymouth, MN, Claudia (Blaine Aslakson) Finneman of Maple Lake, MN, Charley (Lisa) Simenson of Thief River Falls; 9 grandchildren, Richard (Andi) Nelson, Crystal Nelson, Justin (Rebecca) Simenson, Jade (Crystal) Leeper, Kadie Leeper, Nathan Finneman, Nicholas (Abbi) Finneman, Danielle Simenson, and Riley Simenson; 9 great-grandchildren, Parker, Victoria, Amya, Cora, Gunnar, Alissa, Blair, Trygg, and Gage; brother, Elgin Loeffler of Thief River Falls; sister-in-law, Adeline Loeffler; brother-in-law, Waldo Thompson; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her son, Mark in 2001; parents; son-in-law, Gary Finneman; brothers, Bernard (Toni) and Francis; and sisters, Lorraine (Clarence), Lois, and Leah (Henry); and sister-in-law, Gladys Loeffler.
