Luella Mary Fluke was born March 24, 1925 in Grand Forks, ND, the daughter of William and Rose (Heinze) Fluke. In 1930 the family moved and made their home on a farm west of Holt, MN, where she attended her school years at the Holt School and grew to adulthood. For a short period Lue worked at Narverud Cleaners in Thief River Falls before moving to Minneapolis to live with her sister, Lorene. While in Minneapolis she worked as a secretary at Investor Syndicates. In 1945 she moved back to Thief River Falls and returned to work at Narverud Cleaners where she first met and then married Harold Hjelmeland in November of 1946. They were united in marriage for 21 years before his passing in November 1967. During that period Lue was active as a Sunday School teacher at the Assemblies of God Church and served as the Sunday School Superintendent while continuing to work at Narverud Cleaners. In 1968 Lue went to work as a sales clerk at Ekeren Drug where she always enjoyed meeting and helping customers. There she met her future husband Orvis Oien whom she married in August of 1974. Together they enjoyed numerous winters in McAllen, TX, as snowbirds and their summers on their boat fishing at Lake of the Woods. While married to Orvis, Lue became a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls and enjoyed her time spent serving with many of the ladies groups there. Lue so enjoyed her time with Orvis until his death in 1985 and their cute little home on the corner of 9th and North Main, where she continued to live until she downsized and moved into an apartment in Oak Lodge in 2013. While "Aunt Lue" did not have any children of her own, she loved time spent with her many nieces and nephews who thought she was a very special lady. She continued to live on her own and enjoyed her morning breakfasts and attending various events with her "Lady friends," until her health required her to move into the Thief River Care Center in June of 2015. Lue went home to be with the Lord on August 27, 2015. Luella is survived by her four sisters: Lorene Trim of Lincoln, CA, Mae (Duane) VonWald of Wagoner, OK, Janice (Earl) Hanson of Thief River Falls, MN, and DeEtta (Floyd) Hanson of Newfolden, MN; two brothers: Donald (Danna) Fluke of Idahlo Falls, ID, and Walter (Fern) Fluke of Spokane, WA; several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and great great-nieces and great great-nephews; also her special friends: Helen Peterson, Pat Lind, and Roz Keef, all of Thief River Falls, MN. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Harold and Orvis; Father and Mother; brother and sister-in-law, Willis and Alta Fluke of Idaho Falls, ID; and her brother-in-law, Louie Trim of California.
