Lydia Owen, 93, died on Sunday, September 19, 2004 at the CNC Unit on the Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls, MN
Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, September 23, 2004 " 10:30 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, with Rev. John Wollenzien, officiating. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery, Thief River Falls.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM with a prayer service held at 7:00 PM at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls and on Thursday one hour prior to the service in the church.
Lydia Hoyum was born on June 23, 1911 the daughter of John O. and Anna (Aase) Hoyum near Lake Lillian, MN. Her father, who was a minister at a church at Lake Lillian, baptized her. When she was 5 years old she moved with her family to Wannaka and later to Erie, MN. She attended rural Big Grove Elementary School and worked at various places doing domestic work. At the age of 19, she was united in marriage to Morris Owen on May 3, 1931 at Goodridge, MN. Morris and Lydia made their home in Thief River Falls. Morris died in 1986.
Lydia was super humble and was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church since the early 1930s, member of Women of ELCA, Golden Years Quilting Group and church choir.
She is survived by her children Betty Laufman, Thief River Falls, Janice (Danny) Moore, Millington, TN, Judy Owen, Thief River Falls, Lorray (Larry) Tupy, Apple Valley, MN; 16 grandchildren, over 40 great grandchildren; sisters Alfreda Yearout, Waukegan, IL, Emma Stern, Gurrton, KS; sister-in-law Evelyn Hoyum Fosston, MN and sons-in-law Phil Gronseth, Arkansas and Dallas Peterson, Provo, UT.
Lydia was preceded in death by her husband Morris, daughters Angeline Gronseth, Marlene Peterson, son Morris Owen, Jr., grandchildren Steve Petersen, Jeannie Thompson, Bobby Thompson, Brian Hanson; son-in-law Marlow Newkirk; brothers Martin and Edwin Hoyum; sisters Clara Loer, Margaret Holt and brothers-in-law Alfred Loer, Forest Stern, Gust Holt and Howard Yearout.
