Obituary

Lyle Haagenson, 78 of Thief River Falls, MN died peacefully on Monday, October 24, 2016 at Sanford Hospital in Thief River Falls, MN with his loving family at his side.

Funeral service to celebrate Lyle's life will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, October 28, 2016 at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Holt, MN with Rev. Cathie Rhodes officiating. Burial will follow at the Holt Cemetery in Holt, MN.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a 7:00 PM prayer service, on Thursday, October 27, 2016 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to the funeral on Friday at church.

Lyle Kenton Haagenson, was born June 4 th , 1938 to Loyd and Emma (Lunke) Haagenson in Thief River Falls, MN. He was baptized and confirmed at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Holt, MN. He attended country school, Holt School and Lincoln High School in Thief River Falls graduating with the class of 1955. After graduating he served 6 years in the United States Army National Guard.

He spent his entire life on the family farm in Agder Township. In his earlier years, Lyle raised turkeys. Throughout his life he enjoyed raising small grains.

At a dance in Brooks, MN, Lyle met his beautiful future wife, Ruth Hassenstab, and they married on August 27 th , 1966 in Moorhead, MN. They settled on the Haagenson family farm and to this union two sons were born, Loren and Darrin.

He loved to hunt, fish, trap, ride snowmobile and spend time outdoors. In his earlier years, Lyle would sing, play guitar and the accordion. His favorite time of year was deer hunting with his sons and grandchildren. In retirement he spent most of the year preparing for hunting and tending to food plots. Lyle also loved spending time with his family at the lake treating everyone to jet-ski and pontoon rides.

He was a life time member of the Nazareth Lutheran Church in Holt, MN. He served many years on the town board for Adger Township and enjoyed serving in that role. Lyle celebrated 29 ½ years of sobriety and was an avid member and supporter of AA. He fought a courageous 7 year battle with cancer living his life to its fullest.

Survivors are his wife, Ruth; sons, Loren (Dana) of Moorhead, MN and Darrin (DeNae) of Grand Forks, ND; seven grandchildren, Emily, Alyssa, Elizabeth, Nick, Logan, Olivia, and Meyah; two nephews, Craig (Mary Jo) Larson and Jerald (Darcy) Larson; a niece, Michelle (Mike) Westland; and many relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Yvonne (Orville) Larson; and niece, Tonia Larson.
