Obituary

Lyle Stokke, 72, died Friday, October 14, 2011 at the Homestead Hospice in Owatonna, MN.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, October 17, 2011 at Zion Lutheran Church in Viking, MN with Rev. Rena Peterson officiating.  Burial will follow at the Viking Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Sunday, October16, 2011 with a 7:00 PM prayer service at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN.  Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to the funeral on Monday, at the church.

Lyle Allan Stokke was born on May 9, 1939 in Thief River Falls, MN the son of Louis Stokke and Hazel Rosalie (Peterson) Stokke.  He was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Viking, MN and graduated from Newfolden High School in 1957.  Lyle served in the Army National Guard and took his training at Camp Ripley, MN.

On March 26, 1960 he was united in marriage to Mavis Marray Pederson in Greenbush, MN.  The couple made their home on the Stokke family farm near Viking, MN.  The couple raised turkeys, breeder hens, sold eggs to Land O Lakes, and raised small grains.

Lyle enjoyed reading, current events, deer hunting, watching and listening to the Minnesota Vikings and the Minnesota Twins.  His early morning routine included getting, via radio, the international, national, regional, and local news.  Second only to his love of family and our Country was his love for history and geography.  Lyle could readily cite from a vast knowledge of historical events and places.  He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Viking.

Survivors include his half-sister Eva Ruth of Sonora, CA;  4 children, Denise (John) Rokke of Waseca, MN; Val (Joe) Candido of Toluca Lake, CA; Nathan (Barbara) Stokke of Geneva, IL; and Daren (Sara) Stokke of Fort Worth, TX;  8 grandchildren, Brendan Rokke of Minneapolis, MN;  Kristen (Michael) Jackson of Springfield, MO; Jacob Stokke, Luke Stokke and Noah Stokke of Fort Worth, TX;  Cole Stokke, Sydney Stokke of Geneva, IL;  and Jack Candido of Toluca Lake, CA;  1 great-grandchild  Lexi Jackson of Springfield, MO;  nephews Curtis Peterson, Rodney Peterson; and niece Linda DeFoe of Vacaville, CA;  other cousins and many friends.

He is preceded in death by his wife Mavis; his parents; two half-brothers, Leo Stokke and Morris Stokke; and one half-sister, Alice Whistler.
