Obituary


Mabel Hofstad, 85, died on Wednesday, August 29, 2007 at Thief River Care Center in Thief River Falls, MN peacefully surrounded by her loving family.

Funeral Service will be at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, September 1, 2007 at Oak Park Lutheran Church, rural Oklee, MN with Reverend Joseph Abrahamson officiating. Burial will be in Oak Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Friday, August 31, 2007 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN with a 7:00 P.M. Prayer service on Friday evening and also at the church for one hour prior to the service on Saturday.

Mabel Bertha Mostrom was born on March 25, 1922 in Hickory Township, Pennington County, MN, the daughter of Gustav and Ida (Hanson) Mostrom. She was baptized and confirmed at Nazareth Lutheran Church and attended various country schools. She cooked for various area farmers prior to her marriage.

Mabel was united in marriage to Ole Theodore Hofstad on June 7, 1941 at the Goodridge Lutheran parsonage. When Mabel was first married she cared for the chickens, milked cows and did other farm chores. In the fall of 1966 she started picking eggs for M & H Chicken Farms until she retired.

She enjoyed watching TV game shows, lawn work, playing cards, visiting with family and friends on the telephone and attending family and friend gatherings. Mabel was a member of the Oak Park Lutheran Church and the Ladies Aid and the River Valley Homemakers.

Mabel is survived by three children: Glenn (Linda) Hofstad of Trail, MN, Caroline (Bill) Marquis of Cascade, MT and Ione (Edwin) Olson of Trail, MN; ten grandchildren: Arlan Hofstad, Jared (Jessica) Hofstad, Robert (Stacie) Hofstad, Jamie (Anne) Marquis, Ross (Vicki) Marquis, Michelle (Bob) Oliver, Craig Marquis, David (friend Shara) Hofstad, Lisa (Olson) Lemonds and Melanie Olson; twenty one great grandchildren: Orin Hofstad, Olivia, Sofia, Steven and Gloria Hofstad, Kelly, Kate, William and Hannah Marquis, Kyle, Kailey, Kaitlyn and Kaicey Oliver, Jordan, Therese, Noah and Erik Marquis, Whitney Marquis, Nathan Hofstad and Taylor and Cassidy Lemonds; one brother, Ernie (Sammie) Mostrom of Longview, WA; one sister, Laura (Elmer) Rustan of Warren, MN; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ole; her parents, Gustav and Ida Mostrom; grandparents; Andres and Christine Mostrom and John and Agnes Hanson; three brothers: Andrew, Oscar and an infant brother; and one sister, Ella Mostrom.
