Mabel Torkelson, 76, of Plummer, MN died on Sunday, January 28, 2001 on arrival at Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls, MN. Arrangements with Johnson Funeral Service in Red Lake Falls, MN.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 2, 2001 at 10:30 AM in Immanuel Lutheran Church in Plummer, MN with Reverend Gary Graff Officiating. Burial will be held in the Clearwater Cemetery near Oklee, MN.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, from 5 " 7 PM with a 7:00 PM prayer service at the Johnson Funeral Service in Red Lake Falls and also one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.
Mabel Cora Christianson was born December 2, 1924 in Polk County, Trail, MN daughter of the late Laurtiz and Annie (Bergerson) Christianson. Mabel was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She attended school at Wankee School in Polk County. On December 12, 1942 she was united in marriage to Carl Torkelson at Oklee, MN. They made their home at Trail, MN until they moved to Plummer, MN in 1958. Mabel had daycare in her home in Plummer. She enjoyed crocheting, circle wordbooks, baking, gardening, flowers and embroidery. Carl passed away February 28, 1996.
She is survived by her children Arlean (Gary) Anderson of Red Lake Falls, MN; LeRoy Torkelson of Plummer, MN; Carla (Ralph) Landman of Red Lake Falls, MN; Karen (Donald) Longtin of Plummer, MN; Dianne (Jesse) Casavan of Red Lake Falls, MN; Larry (Susan) Torkelson of Plummer, MN; Carl Torkelson Jr. of Plummer, MN; Dean (Joy) Torkelson of Plummer, MN; Dennis (Angela) Torkelson of Plummer, MN: 24 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. One brother Olaf Christianson of Alexandria, MN; two sisters-in-law Bernice Torkelson of Oklee, MN and Margaret Linder of Clearbrook, MN. Two aunts Josi Bjerklie and Elien Munter of Fosston, MN and several nieces and nephews.
Mabel was preceded in death by her husband Carl Sr.; two sons Alton and Gerald Torkelson on June 3, 1968; grandson Mark Anderson March 2, 1986 and parents Laurtiz Christianson on May of 1966 and mother Annie Christianson September 30, 1934 and one brother Lawrence Christianson on May of 1999.
