Mable Alvina Anderson, née Merrill, of Thief River Falls, MN, passed away peacefully on April 11, 2026, at the Thief River Care Center following a brief battle with Parkinson's disease. Born October 1, 1943, in Goodridge, MN, Mable lived a life marked by unwavering energy, a generous spirit, and an infectious smile that brightened the lives of all who knew her.
A graduate of Goodridge High School in 1961, Mable never truly sat down, dedicating herself to a diverse and industrious career. Her work spanned several decades and industries, including six years at the Fanny Farmer Candy Company in Minneapolis and eleven years at Arctic Cat. She also devoted ten years each to waitressing at the Best Western and Carol’s Cafe, followed by twelve years at Handy Farms. From the opening of Walmart until her retirement, she worked diligently in the deli department, where her warmth and friendliness were as much appreciated as her work ethic.
Mable’s personality was as vibrant as her commitments. She was always smiling, social, and possessed a wonderful sense of humor that endeared her to family and friends alike. She was the glue at family gatherings, known for her meticulous planning and the biggest heart one could imagine. Mable’s love extended beyond people to her cherished dachshund dogs, a vast collection of salt and pepper shakers, flea market adventures, and annual visits to the Minnesota State Fair. An avid gardener, she loved planting flowers, tending to roses, feeding birds and stray cats in her neighborhood, and enjoyed pepperoni pizza — all simple pleasures that brought her joy.
Mable is survived by her beloved husband of 62 years, Alvin Anderson, who stood by her side through every chapter of their life together. She is also lovingly remembered by her sister, Margie Rutz of Thief River Falls, and her brother, Richard Merrill and his wife Mary, also of Thief River Falls. Her nieces and nephews include Connie Rucinski of Ada, MN; Anita (Garrett) Johnson of St. Hilaire, MN; Chad (Gena) Merrill of Goodridge, MN; Bob (Loretta) Merrill of Middle River, MN; and Jesse (Vicki) Merrill of Thief River Falls, MN. Special cousins Norma Sorenson of Birmingham, AL and Diane Sunsdahl of Nielsville, WI held a dear place in her heart, as did her faithful little brown girl-dog, Peppy. Countless other cousins, relatives, and friends continue to cherish her memory.
Mable was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Lena (Raasch) Merrill; brothers Ernest Merrill and Arlen Merrill; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Fredrick and Illa Anderson; and numerous cousins, relatives, and friends. Their memories, alongside hers, weave a rich tapestry of family love and enduring bonds.
Visitation for Mable will be held at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN, located at 420 La Bree Avenue North. The visitation hours will take place from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM on April 19, followed by a prayer service at 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM the same day. Additional visitation will continue on April 20 from 10:00 AM until 11:15 AM, with the funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM and concluding at 12:00 PM, with Rev. Kristin Ostercamp officiating.
Mable’s life was a testament to kindness, dedication, and joy found in both simple pleasures and family connections. She will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all fortunate enough to have known her. Her radiant smile and warm heart will live on in the hearts of those she touched.
