Madelyn Stone, 95, died Wednesday, September 15, 2004 at the CNC Unit of Northwest Medical Center, Thief River Falls, MN where she had resided for the past 5 years.
Madelyn Catherine Conely was born September 14, 1909 in Thief River Falls, MN the second child of James and Catherine (McMahon) Conely. She grew up in Thief River Falls where her grandfather homesteaded. Several streets in Thief River Falls were named after members of the Conely family including, Conely Avenue, James Street, Nora Street, Michael Street and Anne Street.
The family moved to Donaldson for a short while, and while working as a waitress there she met her future husband, Lawrence Stone. The couple was married January 3, 1931.
Madelyn and Lawrence lived and farmed near Lake Bronson. Later they moved to Erie and finally to a farm near Oklee in 1940, where they have continued to reside in Garnes Township. They raised farm animals and small grains on their farm. Madelyn was very active in all aspects of their farm operation. She also worked for the Oklee Herald and for Oklee Manufacturing. Madelyn was a very energetic person.
Madelyn was a member of Salem Lutheran Church in rural Oklee where she enjoyed participating in Circle and Ladies Aid.
Survivors include her son, Gerald (Lorraine) Stone of Oklee, MN; one brother, James Conely; sister-in-law, Elsie Conely and Agnes Sinn all of Warren, MN; and several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence in 1987; parents; daughter, Patricia Patti in 1963; sisters, Eleanor and Cele; brothers, Pat, Jack, George, Dennie and Mike; and nephew, Donald Conely.
