Obituary

Marcella Gonsorowski, 76, died Friday, August 23, 2002 at Northwest Medical Center, CNC Unit, Thief River Falls, MN.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 1:00 PM, Monday, August 26, 2002 at St. Bernards Catholic Church, Thief River Falls, MN, with Father Tim McGee celebrating. Burial will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Minto, ND.

Visitation will be 5 " 8 PM, Sunday, August 25, 2002 at the Johnson-Green Funeral Home, Thief River Falls, MN, with a rosary service at 7:30 PM.

Marcella Jarombek was born June 20, 1926 in Ardoch, ND, the daughter of Leo and Lenora (Radonski) Jarombek. She was baptized at St. John The Baptist Catholic Church, Ardoch, ND and confirmed in Grand Forks, ND. The family lived in various places. Marcella attended elementary school in Conway, ND and high school in Manvel, ND, graduating from Manvel High School. Following high school, she attended Mayville State Teachers College.

On June 30, 1947, Marcella was united in marriage to Leonard Gonsorowski at St. Marys Catholic Church, Grand Forks. She taught rural elementary school for three years, owned and operated the Crow Bar in Manvel, ND. They move to Argyle, where they farmed and later to Kilkenny, MN where they owned Leonards Place. The couple moved to Newfolden in 1963 and she later worked at Arctic Cat.

Marcella enjoyed gardening, landscaping, being outdoors, reading and keeping up on political news. She was elected the first woman County Commissioner of Marshall County in 1980, a position she held for 16 years.

Survivors include children; Joseph, Minnetonka, MN; Dexter (Karen), Viking, MN; Gwendolyn Gwen , Blaine, MN; one granddaughter, Darcy (Mike) Hestekind, Viking, MN; 2 great grandchildren, Jonathan and Amanda Hestekind, Viking, MN; 3 brothers, Leo (Arlene) Jarombek, New Brighton, MN, Ted (Lucy) Jarombek and Raymond (Joyce) Jarombek, all Grand Forks, ND; 3 sisters, Helen Jarombek, New Brighton, MN, Irene Chisholm, Manvel, ND and Aneta (Corwin) Staus, Hastings, MN and several nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by parents, 2 sisters, Dorothy Jarombek and Lenora Dusek.
