Obituary

Mardella Sabo, 76, of Thief River Falls, MN, died Friday, May 22, 2009 at Hillcrest Nursing Home in Red Lake Falls, MN.


Funeral service will be 2 PM, Tuesday, May 26, 2009 at Zion Lutheran Church, Thief River Falls, MN with Reverend Ale Tulu officiating. Burial will be at Rindal Cemetery, rural Viking, MN.

Visitation will be 5 " 8 PM, Monday, May 25, 2009 at Johnson Funeral Service, Thief River Falls, MN with a 7 PM prayer service and also for one hour prior to the service at the church, Tuesday.

Mardella Myra Myrom was March 7, 1923 on the family farm in Norden Township, Pennington County, the daughter of Harry and Minnie Myrom. She was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith in Thief River Falls. She attended country school, then Lincoln High School in Thief River Falls.

On October 15, 1941, Mardella was united in marriage to Oscar Sabo in Mavie, MN. To this union 10 children were born. They moved to Bremerton, WA for a few years, then farmed for several years in New Solem Township, Marshall County, before moving to Thief River Fall in 1956. Oscar died in 1967 and Mardella continued to live in Thief River Falls, raising her children. She worked for Gamble Robinson Company as a cost accountant until the business closed. She sewed for Project Heritage Design making quilts and pillows, until she could no longer work due to severe rheumatoid arthritis. She has been a resident of Hillcrest Nursing Home since 2001. She was active over the years in Zion Lutheran Church and held several offices in the VFW and Eagles Auxiliaries.

Mardella enjoyed her family along with quilting, knitting, working in her flower beds, cooking and baking. She is remembered by all for her wonderful meals and there were always home made cookies in her cookie jar.

Mardella is survived by two daughters: Judi Bruggeman, Thief River Falls, MN and Sherry (Bill) Berlowitz, Lincoln, NE; four sons: Orlan (Jenny), Hamilton, MT, Gary (Ione), Maple Grove, MN, Loren, Missoula, MT and David (Vicky), Thief River Falls, MN; 19 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren; daughter-in-law: Lila Sabo, Waterloo, IA and son-in-law: Larry Garriott, Baileyton, AL.

Besides her parents and husband, Oscar, she is preceded in death by sons: Dennis and Roger; daughters: Myra and an infant daughter; a brother: Harry Jr.; three sisters: Maurine, ElDora and Marlys and son-in-law: David Bruggeman.
