Margaret Elizabeth Greenwald was born on December 22, 1922 in rural Plummer, Red Lake County, MN, daughter of Nicholas and Helen Jaeger. She was a tiny baby and was rushed into town on that very cold night to be baptized at the Catholic Church in Plummer. She attended school in Plummer, and graduated from Pershing High School in 1941. On November 8, 1941, Margaret was united in marriage to Howard C. Greenwald. When Howard was serving his country during World War II, Margaret worked and lived in St. Paul, MN. After the war, the couple started their family. As their family grew, they moved a number of times, living in Arizona and Minnesota. They settled in Plummer for a number of years, but in 1966 moved to Spring Lake Park, MN, where Margaret worked for Strite-Anderson Company as a machinist. In 1973 they moved back to Plummer. Margaret worked at the butcher shop and at the restaurant in Plummer for many years. She also was well known as the go-to person for Fuller Brush products. Margaret worked hard all her life; raising her children, gardening, caring for elderly, and helping wherever and whenever needed. She loved music of all kinds and she loved to dance. She was very active in her church and her community. Howard and Margaret received the Knights of Columbus Family of the Year Award in 2005. After Howard's death in 2005, Margaret stayed in their home in Plummer for a short time. With her vision and hearing disabilities, it became necessary to make a move to Valley Home Assisted Living in Thief River Falls, MN. While she was there she earned the reputation of "marathon Walker." She loved playing Bingo and enjoyed the activities, especially the music events. In 2008, progressing age forced her to make one more move. She joined her faithful friend, Frances Schiefert, at the Thief River Care Center. Her caregivers often commented that Margaret was a sweet lady who never complained about anything. She loved visits from family and friends, and she enjoyed and participated in all prayer and worship events. Margaret is survived by her children, their spouses, and her grandchildren: Sharon (Rodney) Wayne of Goodridge, MN, and their children, Timothy, Jeffrey, and Kimberly; Richard (Bonnie Seibel) from Stacy, MN, and their children, Nora, Chancey, and Luke; Jolayne (Charles) Simpson of Plummer, and their children, Tracy Jo, Mindy, and Patrick; Michael (Sandy Baune) of Plummer, and their children, Cheryl, Patricia, and Sheena; Monte of Aurora, Colorado and his son, Monte, Jr.; John (Mary Forbord) of Bloomington, MN, and their daughter, Jenna; 19 great-grandchildren; a sister, MaryAnn Gagner; a brother and his wife, James and Shirley Jaeger; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
