Margaret Johnson, age 92, of Thief River Falls, MN formerly of Oklee, MN died peacefully on Tuesday, December 6, 2016 at Greenleaf Senior Living in Thief River Falls, MN.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, December 10, 2016 at Salem Lutheran Church in Oklee, MN, with Rev. Margaret Jacobus officiating. Interment will follow at Salem Lutheran Cemetery, Oklee, MN.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral service on Saturday at Salem Lutheran Church.

Margaret Elsie Stenberg was born on January 7, 1924 in Douglas, ND, the daughter of Oscar and Signe (Lunde) Stenberg. She was confirmed in the Lutheran faith. Margaret grew up a farm girl. After the dust bowl, her family moved to Oklee, MN where she graduated from Oklee High School.

Following high school Margaret completed teacher training in Thief River Falls, MN, and taught for two years in the Goodridge and Plummer area.

On July 3, 1944 Margaret was united in marriage to Leonard Johnson at Salem Lutheran Church in Oklee. Together they made their home on their farm north of Oklee where they raised their children, Judy and David. They had a good partnership in that they each had a valuable part in the farming operation.

For several years Margaret worked as the office manager for Oklee Manufacturing.

Margaret served as a Sunday School teacher, a Release Time instructor, a 4-H leader and was on the Red Lake County Leader's Council. She was a member of a homemakers club in Garnes Township and active member of Salem's Ladies Aid. Margaret was a lifelong member of Salem Lutheran Church where she served in many leadership roles.

Margaret enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting, bread baking, and gardening. She was a lifelong learner – always eager for Bible study and discussions. Margaret had a great ability to make people feel welcome and was interested in their lives and well-being.

Margaret is survived by her children, Judy (Richard) Reger of Thief River Falls, MN, and David Johnson of Oklee, MN; grandchildren, Kimberly Belgarde of Horace, ND, John (Stepheny) Reger of Dickinson, ND, Quinn Nelson of Canon Falls, MN, D Tyler (Donnie) Johnson of Vacaville, CA, and Courtney Johnson of Rochester, MN; great-grandchildren, Brenna Reger, Ryder Belgarde, Parker Belgarde, Jordan Reger, James Reger, Alex Nelson and Danielle Nelson; brother, Don (Alma) Stenberg of Oklee, MN; sister, Barbara (Sam) Skjonsby of Houston, TX; many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Leonard; her parents; sister, Doris Rupprecht; brothers, Arnold Stenberg and James Stenberg.
