Obituary

Marian Finstad of Thief River Falls, MN, 84, died Saturday April 4, 2015 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND. The funeral service to Celebrate The Life Of Marian Finstad will be at 11:00 AM on Thursday, April 9, 2015 at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Thief River Falls, MN with Rev. Ben Carlsen and Pastor Paul Knight officiating. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery, Thief River Falls, MN. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a 7:00 PM prayer service on Wednesday, April 8, 2015 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN. Visitation will also be held from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM on Thursday at Redeemer Lutheran Church. Marian Joy Nelson Finstad was born November 15, 1930, on the family farm in Sanders Township, Pennington County, the fifth of seven children born to Victor Emanuel Nelson and Tilda Brandrud Nelson. Marian was baptized December 20, 1936 and confirmed in the Lutheran faith, October 28, 1945. She attended Oak Grove and Daisy Dale country schools, through 8th grade and graduated from Lincoln High School in Thief River Falls in 1949. On May 24, 1952, Marian was united in marriage to Kermit Stiluf Carl Finstad at First Lutheran Church (now Redeemer Lutheran) in Thief River Falls. Their entire married life was spent on the family farm in Rocksbury Township where they raised small grain and milked dairy cows. Kermit died in April 1999. Marian worked outside the home most of her adult life. While in high school she was employed at Montgomery Wards. After graduation she was secretary of First Federal Savings and Loan and cashiered evenings at the Falls and Avalon Theaters. Later she worked part time at Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service, then 12 years for school district #564 and Digi-Key Corporation for 17 years, all in Thief River Falls. She retired in 2005. She was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church and taught 3rd grade Sunday School for a few years and also served on the Altar Guild. Marian is survived by children, Lynn (Dave) Clark, Nancy Stoffel, Lori Danielson, Julie Kay (Steven) Olson and Robert (Stephanie) Finstad; several grandchildren, Dominic (Allyson), Danika (Matt), Jill (Matt), Bekki, Tony, Lisa, Micah (Allison), Kalie, Haley, Maxwell, Dylan, Jerzie; great-grandchildren, Judah, Abel, Haven, Liam, Emery, Sloan, Brighter, Kella, Finley, Charlie, Nora, Leo, and a granddaughter due to be born in May; step-grandchildren, Paul, Tom and Aharon (Wilson); and step-great-grandchildren are Kevin, Isabel and Lucas; sisters, Betty Lou Olson and Phyllis (Wilbert) McGregor; sister-in-law, Louise Perkins and also many nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives. Preceding her in death are her husband, Kermit in 1999, mother and father, sister and brother-in-law, June and Vernon Scholin; brother, John Dale Nelson, brother, Victor Eugene (Gene) Nelson, sister and brother-in-law, Kathleen and Gilmore Flaten, mother and father-in-law, Lydia and Carl Finstad, brothers-in-law, Ronald Finstad, Donald Olson, Donald Perkins and sister-in-law, Alice Nelson, grandson, Josiah Danielson, niece, Lois Erickson, nephews, Douglas Nelson and Steve Nelson; great-grandchildren, Baby Jack Knudson, Farrah Louise Knudson and step-great-grandchild, Natalia Avila.
