Marian Marquis of Oklee, MN, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Monday morning, March 30, 2015, at the First Care Living Center in Fosston, MN, at the age of 83. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, April 4, 2015, at Zion Lutheran Church in Oklee, MN, with Reverend Margaret Jacobus and Reverend Bob Dahlen officiating. Burial will follow at Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Oklee, MN. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Friday, April 3, 2015, with a 6:00 PM Prayer Service at Johnson Funeral Service in Oklee. A Visitation will also be held one hour prior to Marian's funeral service on Saturday at the church. Marian Ordell Olson Marquis was born on December 15, 1931 in Goodridge, MN, the daughter of Orris and Mollie (Iverson) Olson. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Goodridge Evangelical Lutheran Church in Goodridge. She attended Goodridge School and graduated in 1949 as valedictorian of her class. Marian was married to Dick Marquis on April 11, 1951 at Rev. Bjorgon's parsonage. To this union seven children were born: Mitchell, Kaye, Arlen, Gene, Lori, David and Doreen. They made their home on Dick's farm in Star Township east of Highlanding, MN. As a young girl of 11 years, Marian started playing piano for worship services at the Norwegian Lutheran Church (also called the Goodridge Evangelical Lutheran Church) in Goodridge. She played until High School graduation when she moved to Thief River Falls, MN, and worked at the Pennington County Courthouse. Later, on November 1, 1956 after having 4 children (Gene was 3 weeks old) she began playing at worship services at Eklund Lutheran Church in rural Goodridge, MN. She was their church organist until 1991. Dick and Marian moved to Oklee in 1990. In the fall of 1991, Marian began playing for services at Zion Lutheran Church in Oklee and sometime in there also played at Salem Lutheran Church, rural Oklee. She remained their church organist until her retirement in August of 2014. Marian was an artist, she loved playing music, painting pictures, making quilts, and sewing clothes for all those children. She made hundreds of quilts for new babies, high school graduations, weddings, and Christmas gifts. Through the years, she was a sewer for Lady Slipper Designs and Thief River Linen, both companies that employed home sewers. She also gave piano lessons to many young people including some grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Marian was an active member in her community and church. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Zion WELCA, and Zion Quilters. She also enjoyed playing cards at the Senior Site in Oklee each week. She loved people and always seemed to be busy doing something with family and friends. Grateful to have shared her life are her children: Mitchell, Fosston, MN, Kaye (Tim) Munt, Oklee, MN, Arlen (Joani), Trail, MN, Gene (Renae), Goodridge, MN, Lori (Darrell) Buol, Sioux Falls, SD, David (Lori) Goodridge, MN, and Doreen (James) Aakre, Clearbrook, MN, Grandchildren: Erica, Ethan, Erin, Justin, Rebecca, Elizabeth, Maureen, Tera, Garett, Averre, Shandrae, Britanne, Preston, Cory, Andrea, Megan, Matthew, Brandon, Brody, Jordey, Zachary, Caden, Devin, Katelyn, and Laura, Great-grandchildren: Reid, Kate, Lillian, Liv, Emily, Molly, Michael, Charles, Norah, Sawyer, Kelby, Caroline, Adele, Jack, Jemma, Ridley, Griffin, Andrew, Caleb, Owen, Damian, Mason, Peyton, Sloane, Ava, Julia, Josie, Bo, Eliza, Lucy, Adalynn, Jaxson, Kylae, and Blake, 2 sisters: Ramona Mossestad, Oroville, CA, and Leone (Ver) Leckron, Grand Island, NE, 1 brother: Jerry (Marilyn) Olson of Reno, NV, 1 brother-in-law: Earl (Angie) Marquis, Goodridge, MN, and many nieces and nephews. Marian is preceded in death by her husband Dick; her parents; brothers-in-law, Don Mossestad and Donald Marquis; sister-in-laws, Evelyn (Trigve) Tofstad, Carolyn (Truman) Nelson, June (Benny) Johnson, Dorothy Marquis, Thelma (Arne) Mcalay, and RozAnn (Kenneth) Thorson; Grandsons, Seth Marquis and Great-grandson Gabriel Knudson.
