Marie Evelyn Beaudry, 91, of Thief River Falls, MN passed away on Thursday, February 18, 2016 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND with her loving family at her side.
Mass of Christian burial will be held at 1:30 PM on Monday, February 22, 2016 at St. Bernard's Catholic Church, Thief River Falls, MN. Burial will follow at St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, Brooks, MN.
Visitation will be held from 3:00 PM until 6:00 PM with a 5:00 PM prayer service on Sunday, February 21, 2016 at Johnson Funeral Service, Thief River Falls, MN and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.
Evelyn was born February 18, 1925 in Hamberg, ND the daughter of Charles Olaf and Josephine (Boutain) Olson. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Bremen, ND. At age 11, the family moved near Brooks, MN where she graduated from Lafayette High School in Red Lake Falls, MN in 1942. Evelyn moved to Crookston, MN in September of 1942 to work for Mayor W. J. Kirkwood, and later City Clerk Loren Skogness.
On June 10, 1943, her parent's 25 th anniversary, she was united in marriage to John Michael Beaudry at St. Anne's Catholic Church, Crookston, MN; they continued to make their home in Crookston. In 1953, she was employed by the Great Northern Railway as Extra Gang Timekeeper for two years and then transferred to the Superintendent's Office in Grand Forks, ND, working as clerk/steno/secretary. When that office was downsized, she transferred to Crookston where she worked as steno/clerk/telegrapher, where she saw the change to the Burlington Northern. After retiring in 1987, John and Evelyn moved to St. Paul where they enjoyed their retirement and were near their son and his family. They were members of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Roseville.
In 1979, John & Evelyn enjoyed a life changing trip to Greece, Rome and the week in the Holy Lands during Holy Week brought a new hunger for studying the Bible.
John passed away in 1992 and Evelyn joined the church of St. Paul in Ham Lake, MN. After 13 years and a short time in Corcoran, MN, she moved to Thief River Falls, MN to be near her daughter.
Evelyn was a member of St. Bernard's Catholic Church, the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway Veterans Association, Catholic Society of Foresters, St. Anne's Parish Council, Eagles Auxiliary, and Red Hat Society. She experienced Life in the Spirit Seminar, Agassiz Valley TEC # 4, Marriage Encounter, and Cursillo, on which she served on the Secretariat.
Evelyn enjoyed knitting, crocheting, sewing for herself and her children and also loved line dancing and playing pinochle. She especially liked house decorating at Christmas; one year they were featured on KROX and Grand Forks Herald.
She is survived by her loving children, Mike (Lois) Beaudry of Oakdale, MN and Marie (Paul) Smeby of Thief River Falls, MN; grandchildren, Josee (Dan) Bidwell of Mankato, MN, Sean (Jamie) Beaudry of Savage, MN, Gary (Amanda) Rick of Oakdale, MN, Jodi (Nick) Buche of Oakdale, MN, Jackie (Dusty) Mumaugh of Oakdale, MN, Sarah Smeby of Red Lake Falls, MN and Kelly Smeby of Thief River Falls, MN; along with 15 great-grandchildren, Skyler, Alex, Jesse, Noah, Isaac, Zada Marie Evelyn, Christian, Harper, Jocelyn, Emmie, Declan, Jersey, Jazmyne, Jackson, and Zane; and other family and friends.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, John; parents, Charles and Josephine Olson; two brothers, Lester and Calvin Olson, and son-in-law, Sheldon Nowacki.
