Marie (Geske) Hogenson was born on July 23, 1914 in Thief River Falls, MN to Albert and Martha (Lautenbach) Geske. She lived on a farm south of Thief River Falls. The farm celebrated its 100 th anniversary in 1990. Marie attended District 73 grade school and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1934. Marie was the last surviving sibling of eight children. Marie was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Church.
Marie married Ernest Hogenson July 21, 1936 at St. John's Church in Thief River Falls. While living here she worked for Dr. Kaisler. In 1957 Ernie and Marie moved to Duluth, MN. During that time she worked for Dr. Northfield and Dr. LeVasseur. In 1985 they returned to Thief River falls and purchased a home on Arnold Avenue. When Ernest passed away in 1998, Marie moved to the Skylite Apartments. In June 2009, she moved to Oakland Park where she has made her home.
Preceding her in death were her parents and husband Ernest, two brothers: Elmer Geske (1967), John Geske (2001), five sisters: Alvina Harbott (1977), Clara Erickson (1977), Esther Koop (1991), Eleanor Falzone (1998) and Edith Harbott (2000) and Steve Turner (2011), husband of granddaughter Kelly.
Marie enjoyed watching the Minnesota Twins, crossword puzzles, bingo and enjoyed visits from her family and being a part in the lives of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was an excellent seamstress and cook, who took great pride in the things she sewed and served. The grandchildren always were amazed at all the pots and pans she could use, especially when they had to do dishes. One of her favorite things to do was to make malts for her grandchildren and they can remember waking up in the morning and there would be clean, ironed shoelaces in their shoes. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, American Legion Auxilary and Trinity Golden Years Choir.
Survived by two children: Ray (Kathy) Hogenson, Austin, TX and Marion (Fred) Dablow, Thief River Falls, MN; five grandchildren: Todd (Sue) Hogenson, Martinez, CA, Scott (Kelly) Hogenson, Austin, TX, Kelly Turner, Ramsey, MN, Gene (Carolyn) Leppala, Shakopee, MN, Lori (Kevin) Heidelberger, Farmington, MN; two step-grandchildren: Carla (Paul) Meneghini, Duluth, MN and Charley (Tricia) Dablow, Charlottesville, VA; twelve great-grandchildren: Andrew and Bradley Hogenson, Ryan Bartlett, Sergey and Christina Hogenson, Garrett and Emily Heidelberger, Isabelle and Talulla Leppala, Charlotte, Kasey and Carson Meneghini; two sisters-in-law: Eldora Alby, Fond du Lac, WI and Gladys Hogenson, Thief River Falls, MN; cousin: Gustie Thorson and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to say Thank You to Elaine Laursen (niece) for her many visits and watching over Marie when Fred and Marion needed to be away.
