Marie Kolb, 78, died Wednesday, September 25, 2002 at St. Benedict Senior Community, St. Cloud, MN.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 AM Monday, September 30, 2002 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Mentor, MN with Monsignor Roger Grundhaus presiding. Burial will follow at St. Lawrence Cemetery, Mentor, MN.

Visitation will be 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM Sunday, September 29, 2002 at Johnson Funeral Home, Red Lake Falls with a 7:00 PM Prayer Service followed by the Rosary. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to services Monday at the church.

Marie Violette was born April 21, 1924 in Red Lake Falls, MN the daughter of Emery and Agnes (Lacoursiere) Violette. She was baptized and confirmed into the Catholic faith at St. Josephs Catholic Church, Red Lake Falls and attended St. Josephs School in Red Lake Falls.

She was united in marriage to Raymond Kolb, June 4, 1945 at St. Josephs Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls. The couple lived in Red Lake Falls for a short time and in 1947 they made their home on a farm in Grove Park Township near Mentor, where they and raised their nine children.

Marie worked as an assistant cook for the Mentor School for eight years and was a recorder for Royal Neighbors of America in Mentor for many years. On September 18, 1998 she entered Hillcrest Nursing Home in Red Lake Falls, MN and on July 26, 1999 she moved into St. Benedict Senior Community in St. Cloud, MN.

Marie enjoyed sewing, quilting, knitting, cooking and canning. She loved to make clothes and quilts for her children and grandchildren. She especially treasured the times spent with her husband and children, whether it was picnics in the park or traveling throughout western U.S.

She was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Mentor, where she was active in the church choir and a member of the womans guild. Marie and Ray participated in many Cursillo and TEC retreats.

Survivors include her husband, Raymond of St. Cloud, MN; 9 children, Monica (James) Mogen of Aurora, CO, Jerome (Nancy) Kolb of Minneapolis, MN, Stephen (Deb) Kolb of Coon Rapids, MN, David (Nancy) Kolb of Andover, MN, Kenneth (Denise) Kolb of Littleton, CO, Patrick (Lynn) Kolb of St. Paul, MN, Dennis (Karyl) Kolb of Eatonville, WA, Elaine (Richard) Taufen of St. Cloud, MN, and Gary (Roberta) Kolb of Ft. Bragg, NC; 20 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren; 4 sisters, Alice Walker of Minneapolis, MN, Helen Vaudrin of Milwaukee, WI, Elizabeth Eddins of New Brighton, MN, and Julia Jablinske of Lynnwood, WA; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Her parents; brother, Leonard Violette; sister, Rose Vaudrin; and an infant brother, Leo, precede her in death.
