Marie Matilda Busses father came to the United States from Germany at 14 years of age in 1882. He moved to Wylie, MN, where he met and married Louise Weiss in 1897. Marie was born on July 18, 1912 in Wylie, Minnesota, to Henry and Louise (Weiss) Busse. She attended the Little Red School in Browns Creek through the 8th Grade.
Marie was married to Arnold W. Lehrer on October 18, 1933 in Wylie, MN. The couple farmed in Red Lake Falls Township all their married life. One son, Ronald, was born to them on March 4, 1941.
Marie was very active in their church, Immanuel Lutheran in Wylie and later St. Johns Lutheran Church in Red Lake Falls. She taught Sunday school and Vacation Bible School for 55 years bringing the word of God to approximately 550 children. She sang in the choir for 50 years, served as President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer of Ladies Aid as well as serving on many of the committees. Marie had also served as a 4- H Leader.
Marie always had a large vegetable and flower garden on the farm, she loved her flowers.
Arnold, her husband of 53 years, passed away in 1986. Marie stayed on the farm until 1992 and then moved to Fairview Manor in Red Lake Falls. Marie moved to Hillcrest Nursing Home in February, 1999.
Marie is survived by one son, Ronald G. Lehrer and his wife Maureen of Georgetown, TX; three grandchildren: Jeanette (Rick) Bremer and daughters Karly and Savannah of Holly, MI; Karin (Jason) Richardson and son Wyatt of Howell, MI and Dr. R. John (Sara) Lehrer and children Jordan and Nicholas of Frisco, TX. Sisters Alma Zwingelberg of Kansas, Geraldine Flage of Red Lake Falls, MN and Lucille Lehrer of Red Lake Falls, MN; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold; her parents; five brothers: Harold, George, John, Albert and Adolph Busse; and two sisters: Sophie Busse and Frieda Zutz
