Marilyn Halvorson, 75, died on Thursday, June 10, 2010 at Meritcare Hospital, Palliative Unit, in Fargo, ND.

Funeral service will be 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday, June 15, 2010 at Sand Valley Lutheran Church, Trail, MN with Pastor Mike Sletto officiating. Burial will be at Sand Valley Cemetery, Trail, MN.

Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Monday, June 14, 2010 at Johnson Funeral Service at Oklee, MN with a Prayer Service on Monday evening at 7:00 P.M. and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.

Marilyn Avis Sordahl was born on March 17, 1935 in Equality Township, near Oklee, MN, the daughter of Gunder and Bergit (Person) Sordahl. She attended rural school, moved to Duluth and attended school and moved back, graduating from Oklee High School in 1952. Marilyn attended Bemidji State College for two years. She was employed at Red Lake County Extension Service.

Marilyn was united in marriage to Dennis Halvorson on June 6, 1959 at Oklee, MN. The couple lived in Trail and she continued to work at the Extension Office for a time. Marilyn raised her family and worked at the Trail Post Office as clerk and Postmaster for many years.

She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, baking and playing piano. Marilyn was church organist for many years. She was a member of Sand Valley Lutheran Church where she was active in the Sand Valley Ladies Aid, the Community Club and the VFW Auxiliary.

Marilyn is survived by her children, Denise (Bruce) Peterson of Oklee, MN, Brenda (Kelly) Dahlen of Goodridge, MN and Kurt (Janet) Halvorson of Oklee, MN; grandchildren, Angie Peterson, Dustin Peterson, Kristin Halvorson, Cody (Andrea) Halvorson, Kasey Dahlen, Brent Halvorson, Michelle (Justin) Skjerven and Courtney Halvorson; one great grandchild, Ava Halvorson; sister, Helen Sordahl of Gully, MN, brother, Gaylen Sordahl of Gully, MN; and many relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dennis, in 1990; her parents, grandson, Cole and sister, Gloria.
