Obituary

Marlene Snetting 85 of Thief River Falls, MN, peacefully passed into the loving arms of Jesus on Wednesday, July 1, 2020 at her residence with her loving family at her side.

Due to the coronavirus, a private graveside service to celebrate Marlene's life will be held at Greenwood Cemetery in Thief River Falls, MN with Rev. John Voelker officiating.

Marlene Joyce Langevin was born October 30, 1934 in Thief River Falls, MN the daughter of Roy and Elsie (Larson) Langevin. She was baptized and confirmed into the catholic faith. She attended parochial school in Thief River Falls and graduated from Lincoln High School with the class of 1952. She was very proud of her Girl Scouting in her high school years with the leadership of Harriet Hartz, and later leading her daughter's troop. Marlene attended UND Nursing School. She had a special sense for medicine and was a natural caregiver.

On March 21, 1954, Marlene was united in marriage to Leslie Snetting in Thief River Falls, MN and converted to the Lutheran faith. To this union two daughters were born, Rebecca and Cheryl.

In her younger years, she was extremely involved in Trinity Lutheran Church. She enjoyed ice skating on the river, snowmobiling, family trips to the lake, foreign trips earned through their business and tolerating the family horses. Marlene worked with her husband to establish their business, Northwestern Homes and after retiring, joined the hospital auxiliary for many years of volunteering to improve the hospital experience for others.

Marlene and Leslie shared the joy of their summer place on Lake of the Woods with lots of fishing and family time made even more enjoyable by life-long friends having the neighboring cabin. Winter vacationing was spent at their condo on the Florida panhandle near Leslie's brother and family. She spent countless hours creating lovely gardens at their home in the woods. While tending her gardens, she was known to use that time for prayer, always one to be aware of needs of others. Marlene was a good, unselfish friend to many. That was especially evident throughout the lives of her and Leslie's parents, as Marlene was instrumental in caring for them in life as well as death.

She loved her road trips to wherever her daughters lived, especially once the grandchildren arrived; they were absolutely the joy of her life. Marlene was grateful her life included time with two great-grandchildren.

Survivors include her loving husband of 66 years, Leslie of Thief River Falls; daughters, Rebecca (Mickey) Moe of Elysian, MN and Cheryl (Pat Anderson) Snetting of Thief River Falls; grandchildren, Benjamin (Anna) Moe of Minneapolis, MN, Beth (David) Meissner of Plymouth, MN and Tyler (Heather) Snetting of Poplar, WI; great-grandchildren, Isabelle and Jonah Meissner; brother, Jim (Rita) Langevin of Kettle Falls, WA; several nieces and nephews; special family friend, Gordon Peterson; and many other relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Richard (Gayle) Langevin; and special family friend, Margaret Peterson.

Legends say that hummingbirds float free of time, carrying our hopes for love, joy and celebration. The hummingbird's delicate grace reminds us that life is rich, beauty is everywhere, every personal connection has meaning and that laughter is life's sweetest creation.
