Obituary

Martha LaPlante, 84, of Red Lake Falls died Saturday, November 27, 2004 at Riverview Hospital in Crookston, MN.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 2:00 PM Friday, December 3, 2004 at St. Josephs Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls, MN with Father Tim Bushy presiding. Burial will follow at St. Josephs Cemetery in Red Lake Falls.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM Thursday, December 2, 2004 with a 7:00 PM wake service at St. Josephs Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to the funeral at St. Josephs Catholic Church.
Martha Pauline Swanson was born on August 15, 1920 in Karlstad, MN the daughter of Alfred and Beda (Netterlund) Swanson. She was baptized and confirmed in the catholic faith and attended school in Karlstad. After school, Martha moved to Red Lake Falls and went to work at Savards Restaurant.
On March 3, 1939 she was united in marriage to Maurice LaPlante at St. Josephs Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls and continued to make their home in Red Lake Falls. They owned and operated LaPlante Meat Market for many years.
Martha loved playing bridge, golfing, making afghans, traveling, reading and was very proud of her home. In her later years she enjoyed listening to books on tape. Martha attended mass regularly and was a strong woman of faith, a faith very personal to her. She was very close to her sister Loretta Prenevost.
She was a member of St. Josephs Catholic Church and was active in the Guild. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Oak Knolls Golf Course, St. Johns Hospital Auxiliary, and Friends of the Red Lake Falls Library.
Survivors include two sons, Darryle LaPlante of Torremolinos, Spain and James LaPlante of Gulfport, FL; sister, Loretta Prenevost of Red Lake Falls; brother, Stanley (Ruby) Swanson of Karlstad, MN; sisters-in-law, Norma LaPlante of Downey, Ca, Velina Grandbois of Red Lake Falls, Merle (William) Bergerson of Forest Lake, MN, and Mary LaPlante of Baton Rouge, LA; and several nieces and nephews.
Martha was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Maurice on April 24, 1996; sisters, Alma (Roy) Sjodin, Myrtle (Harry) Froberg, Gladys (William) Sather, Lily (Roy) Ellis and Pearl (Michael) Velesquez; brothers-in-law, Willard LaPlante, Ray LaPlante, Harvey Grandbois, Neil Prenevost; special nephew, Mark Prenevost; nieces, Jill Prenevost and Colleen Swanson and grand niece, Dru Sjodin.
