Martin Solseng, Jr. of Thief River Falls, age 81 died on Wednesday, July 29, 2015 at Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, ND with his loving family at his side. Funeral service will be at 2:00 PM on Monday, August 3, 2015 at Oak Ridge Lutheran Church, rural Thief River Falls, MN with Dale Knotek officiating. Burial will follow at Norden Lutheran Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a 7:00 PM prayer service on Sunday, August 2, 2015 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to the service on Monday at Oak Ridge Lutheran Church, rural Thief River Falls, MN. Martin Edward Solseng, Jr. was born on May 27, 1934 at home in Hickory Township, Pennington County, MN the son of Martin Sr. and Esther (Bakken) Solseng. Martin was baptized at Little Oak Church on July 8, 1934 and confirmed at Oak Ridge Lutheran Church on October 17, 1948. He was raised in Hickory and Norden Townships in Pennington County. He attended country school at Little Oak School and Gopher Mound School and also attended Lincoln High School. Martin took over the family farm in Norden Township at age 16 and farmed until his retirement. Martin and Louise also owned and operated the Goodridge Hartz Store and Café for a few years. On June 23, 1956, Martin was united in marriage to Louise Marie Knutson at the Community Methodist Church in Thief River Falls, MN. To this union two daughters were born, Sherry and Michelle. Martin enjoyed working on antique cars, tractors, and phonographs, fixing old bicycles, watching Minnesota Twins games, playing accordion, attending family reunions, and spending time with family and friends. He served for over 20 years as a supervisor on the Norden Township Board and as a member of the Oak Ridge Cemetery Committee. He was a member of Oak Ridge Lutheran Church. Martin is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Louise; two daughters, Sherry (Gary) Page and Michelle (Tim) Benton, all of Thief River Falls; two grandchildren, Brandon (Lacey) Page of Thief River Falls and Allison Page of San Francisco, CA; one great-grandson, Jacob Lee Page; two brothers, Harold (Karin) Solseng of Germany and Elton (Colleen) Solseng of Harwood, ND; three nieces, Esther (Mike) Gannon, Heidi (John) Balestrieri, Tracy Solseng; special family friend, Daniel Lockskin and other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Martin, Sr. and Esther Solseng; foster brother, Daryl (LuAnn) Lewis; and special family friend and neighbor, Eleanor Joyce.
