Obituary

Marville Hjelle of Thief River Falls, MN formerly of Viking, MN age 86 died peacefully on Saturday, April 25, 2015 at Good Samaritan Society in Clearbrook, MN. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, May 2, 2015 at the Evangelical Free Church in Thief River Falls, MN with Pastor Bruce Fisher and Pastor Mel Sich officiating. Burial will follow at Viking Cemetery near Viking, MN. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Friday, May 1, 2015 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN. Visitation will also be held from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM on Saturday at the church. Marville Lillian Flodstrom was born May 17, 1928, to J. Paul and Lillie (Lindquist) Flodstrom at Warren, MN. She spent her first years on a farm west of Viking and attended Indian Trial School. When she was ten years old, she moved with her family into the town of Viking where her father was the Postmaster. She completed her elementary school in Viking, and graduated from Newfolden High School in 1945. She attended the Warren Teacher Training Department and graduated in 1946. Her first school she taught in was west of Argyle. She was 18 years old when she started teaching. She then taught at Ridgeview School, northwest of Viking for three years. Marville was united in marriage to Virgil Hjelle on August 14, 1948, at the Viking Covenant Church. They had two sons, Clark and Steven Hjelle. Her primary goal was to be full time wife and mother. She was very active in the Covenant Church, teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, also playing the piano. She was active in the Ladies Aide and served as secretary and treasurer for several years. Marville also worked at the Community Center in Viking for eight years. She ministered in singing duets with her husband, Virgil, at many area churches and community events and also funerals. In March, 2004, they moved to Thief River Falls. They became members of the Evangelical Free Church. Marville moved to Greenleaf Assisted Living in August, 2013. She moved to Good Samaritan Nursing Home on March 2, 2015 after spending January and February, 2015 in Grand Forks and Fosston Hospitals. Marville is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Pastor Clark and Sherry Hjelle of Gonvick, MN and Pastor Steven and Debbie Hjelle of Des Plaines, IL; one brother and sister-in-law, Douglas and Florence Flodstrom, Clearbrook, MN; three grandchildren, Troy (Melissa) Hjelle, Missoula, MT, Amanda (Dominic) Broda, Maple Plain, MN, and Ryan Hjelle, Duluth, MN; two great grandchildren, Spencer and Samuel Hjelle, Missoula, MT; one sister-in-law, Ardelle Hjelle, Thief River Falls, MN; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Virgil; her father and mother-in-law, Oscar and Selma Hjelle; five sisters-in-law, Maxine Prickett, Amy Hjelle, Vernace Stokke, Mae Hjelle and June Hjelle; and two brothers-in-law, Orville and Roger Hjelle.
