Obituary

Marvin E. Johnson, 86 of Thief River Falls, MN died on Thursday, October 26, 2017 at St. Paul Regions Hospital in St. Paul, MN.


Funeral Service will be 2:00 PM Tuesday, October 31, 2017 at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Thief River Falls, MN, with Reverend Darrel Corey officiating.  Burial will be at Viking Cemetery, Viking, MN.

Visitation will be 5 - 8 PM with a 7:00 PM Prayer Service on Monday, October 30, 2017 at Johnson Funeral Service, Thief River Falls, MN, and also one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.

Marvin E. Johnson was born March 14, 1931 at Parkville, MN, the son of Selmer and Ethel (Hanson) Johnson.  He was baptized May 5, 1931 at Virginia, MN and confirmed August 12, 1945 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Newfolden, MN. He attended several country schools and attended Newfolden High School.

He served his country with the United States Army as Military Police Officer from 1953 – 1955.  He was honorably discharged December of 1956 with the rank of Corporal.

On September 20, 1952, Marvin was united in marriage to June Irene Hodik at Viking, MN.

He was employed at Reserve Mining, Babbitt, MN for 7 years, Thief River Falls School District for 10 years, Thief River Falls Library as bookmobile driver for 25 years and part time for 8 years.

Marvin was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, Thief River Falls and a member of the Thief River Falls American Legion.  He liked hunting, camping, fishing, gardening, restoring old tractors and vintage cars.  He loved country music.

Survivors include wife, June Johnson, Thief River Falls, MN; children: Michael (Mary) Johnson, Warren, MN, daughter-in-law Maryann Johnson, of West Virginia; 3 grandchildren: Tami (Scott) Oberg, Benjamin Johnson and Anthony (Shanon) Johnson; 6 great grandchildren: Emma, Elise and Ava Oberg, Ivan, Owen and Jase Johnson; sister-in-law Shirley Johnson of Thief River Falls, MN.

Preceded in death by parents; son Bradley Johnson, grandparents, Maggie and Edward Hanson and Claus and Petra Johnson, brother, Darrell Johnson; sister, Lois Ann Johnson; several aunts, uncles and cousins.
