Obituary

Marvin Koop, 91 of Thief River Falls, MN passed away peacefully of natural causes on Monday, January 24, 2022 at Sanford Medical Center in Thief River Falls with his loving family by his side.

Funeral service will be 2:00 PM on Friday, January 28, 2022 at St. John Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, MN with Reverend Chris Rosebrough officiating.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery, St. Hilaire, MN at a later date. Military honors will be provided by the Ecklund-Holmstrom American Legion Post 117, Veterans of War Post 2793 and Minnesota Army National Guard Honor Guard.

Marvin Carl Koop was born April 16, 1930 at Thief River Falls, MN, the son of Fred and Gertrude (Behrns) Koop.  He was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church, Thief River Falls, MN.  He attended Lincoln High School and graduated in 1948.

Marvin served his country in the United States Army from 1953 until 1955, when he was honorably discharged.

In 1957, Marvin was united in marriage to Shirley Santl in Roseau, MN. Together they operated a small grain and dairy farm in Rocksbury Township. Marvin was very proud to see that Koop Farm became a Century Farm in 2011. He also worked for Zontelle Telephone Construction, Northwest Bell Telephone Company and following his retirement, Marvin worked at H & R Block for 15 years.

Marvin was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Radium, MN and has held numerous church offices.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley, Thief River Falls; children: Karen (Lee) Rolland, Marilyn (Gary) Hoglo and Thomas (Sherry) Koop all of Thief River Falls; grandchildren: Derek (Annette) Walseth, Cody Walseth, Jacki (Joey) Roeder, Garrett (Amanda) Hoglo, Jamie (Jason Jenson) Hoglo and Jenna (Justin) Wiseth, Josh (Emily Johannes) Koop and Kaylee (Nathan) Bates; step grandchildren: Kaeley Rolland and Skyler (Maja) Rolland; great-grandchildren: Emilee, Kobe, Korbin, Cade, Charlie, Natalie, Summer, Parker, Ayden, Michael, Charlize, Vincent, Demary, Rylee; sisters, Esther Swords of Fort Walton Beach, FL and Verna (Wally) Mostrom of Coon Rapids, MN; sister-in-law, Barbara Koop of Eagle Harbor, MI; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers and sisters: Wilbur (Lillian) Koop, Don Koop, Doris (Vern) Mortrud, Mable (Calvin) Jackson and twin sister, Marion (Stan) Lomenick; brother-in-law, Joe Swords; and son-in-law, Ross Walseth.
