Marvin A. Sletten, 90, died Thursday, August 2, 2007 at his home in Thief River Falls, MN.
Funeral service will be held at 1 pm on Tuesday, August 7, 2007 in Grace Lutheran Church Grygla, MN with Rev. Mary Gilthvedt officiating. Burial will follow at Our Saviors Cemetery, rural Grygla, MN. Military honors will be provided by members of the VFW and American Legion Posts of Grygla.
Visitation will be from 5-8 pm on Monday, August 6, 2007 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls and again one hour prior to the service at the church
Marvin Arnold Sletten was born September 9, 1916 in Lee Township, Beltrami County, MN, the son of Oluf Magnus and Mable Marie (Tronson) Sletten. He attended Colmunn School and Thompson School, both in Lee Township and Olstad School and then worked on the family farm.
On March 15, 1941, Marvin entered the United States Army, served his country honorably and was discharged on October 17, 1945. He then returned to Thief River Falls and worked for several area farmers and Arctic Cat for several years.
In August of 1948, Marvin was united in marriage to Ingeborg Tanem at Goodridge, MN. The couple made their home in Thief River Falls, MN.
Marvin married Mabel Stanley, on June 19, 1971 in Thief River Falls, MN.
Marvin loved to farm and spent most of his life working for area farmers. He had a fondness for animals and enjoyed drinking coffee and spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by daughters: Verna Kulseth, Grove City, MN, Donna (Gene) Jullium, Waterville, MN; son: Ronald (Annette) Sletten, Thief River Falls, MN; step-children: Arnold (Ida) Stanley, Grygla, MN and Donna (Gordon) Jelle, Grygla, MN; 16 grandchildren; 14 step-grandchildren; brother Wilford (Phyllis) Sletten; sister Bernice Sistad; brother-in-law, Richard.
Marvin was preceded in death by first wife, Ingeborg (1965) and 2nd wife, Mabel (1993); daughter Arlys; parents; brothers, Orin, Bill, Harvey, Howard, Clarence, Orvis, Malford, and Willard; sisters, Ardith, and Florence; and step-grandson Jeffrey Stanley.
