Mary Anne Schafer passed away on Monday, December 17, 2018 at Villa St. Vincent in Crookston, MN surrounded by her loving family.
Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday December 22, 2018 at 1:00 PM at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls, MN with Father Bob Schreiner Officiating. Burial will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery near Red Lake Falls, MN.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 22, 2018 starting at 11:00 AM until the time of service at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls. Rosary will be held at 12:40 PM at the church prior to the service.
Mary Anne Schindler was born April 30, 1928 at Red Lake Falls, MN daughter of John and Mary (Schmitz) Schindler. She was raised near Red Lake Falls and attended country school and later St. Joseph Catholic School and graduated from Lafayette High School in 1946.
On August 7, 1950, Mary Anne was united in marriage to John Virgil Schafer at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Red Lake Falls, MN. They settled on the Schafer family farm where they raised their family and farmed their entire lives. After she raised her children she had a small home based business of painting and wall papering.
She was an active member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church, guild and choir. She was a charter member of the Catholic Daughters Court St. Cecelia, a member of the Legion Auxiliary and was active in many community organizations.
Mary Anne is survived by her 8 children, Stephen (William Lindsey) Schafer, Little Rock, AR, William (Margaret) Schafer, Strathcona, MN, David (Kathryn) Schafer, Strathcona, MN, Louis (Bruce Reeves) Schafer, Red Lake Falls, MN, Marjorie (Michael) LaCoursiere, Red Lake Falls, MN, Laura (Jaime) DeRosier, Red Lake Falls, MN, Joseph Schafer, Little Rock, AR and Glenn (Linda Shoemaker) Schafer, St. Paul, MN; 19 grandchildren, Benjamin (Ashley) and Peter Schafer, Anna (Chris) Owens, Timothy, Mary Margaret and Katerina Schafer, Saul (Destiny), Ivan, Leonard (Megan), Max (Caitlin), Emmett, Eli, John and Pearl LaCoursiere, Clara (Bonaventure) Kargel, Forrest (Kaylee), Audrey (Ignatius) Kargel, David and Ruth DeRosier; 12 great-grandchildren; siblings Theodore Schindler, Val (Delores) Schindler and Vernon (Mary) Schindler all of Red Lake Falls, MM; sisters-in-law, Sister Lucille Schafer, Crookston, MN, Pat Schindler of Red Lake Falls, MN.
She is preceded in death by her husband John, great-granddaughter Amelia Schafer, parents John and Mary Schindler, siblings infant Louis Schindler, Edward Schindler, Eugene Schindler, Raymond Schindler, Bernard Schindler, Veronica Hoefer, Louise Kees and Josephine Teggatz.
