Obituary

Mary Ann Wanner Thief River Falls, MN, 67, died Monday December 16, 2013 at Sanford Medical Center, Thief River Falls, MN. A family memorial service will be held in the spring at Mary Ann's favorite place in Minnesota, Northern Acres Resort on Bowstring Lake, north of Deer River, MN. Mary Ann (Chadbourne) Wanner was born in New York City on August 18, 1946, the daughter of Henry and Marcella (Strazzabosco) Chadbourne. She grew up mostly on Long Island, NY and graduated from Uniondale High School. In 1970 she moved with her family to Detroit Lakes, MN. The first week she was there she met her future husband, Bruce who was home on leave from the U.S. Navy. The two kept in touch over the next couple of years. They were married on August 12, 1972 on the west shore of Big Toad Lake at the Wanner family summer place, Sylvan Shores. Mary Ann and Bruce relocated to Fort Lauderdale, FL area where they spent the next 33 years. In 1974 they were blessed with a baby girl, Dawn Celeste. Mary Ann worked as an electronic assembler for Audio Intelligence Devices for several years. In addition to traveling with her parents in their motor home, she and her family spent a lot of time at their residence that her father built in northern Florida. In 2006 they returned to Minnesota to live and spend time with Bruce's family. They settled in Thief River Falls after Bruce became employed by the Digi-Key Corporation. Mary Ann enjoyed reading, knitting, scrapbooking, and housekeeping. She and her constant companion, P.D., a black lab, enjoyed looking out for each other. P.D. was not only her companion, but also her help-mate when Bruce was not at home. She is survived by her loving husband, Bruce; her daughter, Dawn Barnhardt of Castle Rock, CO; grandchildren, Cody and Cassidy; mother, Marcella Chadbourne; sisters, Linda Carey and Sandra Chadbourne; brother, James Chadbourne; mother-in-law, Majorie Wanner; sisters-in-law, Gail Wanner and Sheila Wanner; brother-in-law, David Wanner and his companion Jan; niece, GiGi Wanner and her loving P.D., along with many cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. Preceding her in death are her father, Henry Chadbourne; father-in-law, Harold Wanner; brother-in-law, Kevin Carey; nephew, Patrick Carey.
