Mary Wavra, 85 of Red Lake Falls, MN died on Sunday, December 20, 1998 at Hillcrest Nursing Home in Red Lake Falls.
Mass of Christian burial will be held on Wednesday, December 23, 1998 at 10:30 AM at St. Dorothy Catholic Church in Dorothy, MN with Father Tim Bushy Officiating. Burial will be held at the Prairie View Cemetery near Euclid, MN.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, 5 " 8 PM with a 7:30 prayer service at the St. Dorothy Catholic Church in Dorothy and also one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday.
Mary Edith Steer was born December 17, 1913 in Killarney, Manitoba, Canada daughter of Charles and Bessie (Ball) Steer. At the age of 7 years old she moved with her family to the United States near Euclid, MN where she was raised and attended school. On October 20, 1931 she was united in marriage to Dorn Wavra at Euclid, MN. The couple lived near Euclid where they farmed, milked cows, raised pigs and chickens. In 1952 they moved to the Dorothy MN area where they farmed until retirement in 1980 when they moved into Red Lake Falls. Dorn passed away in 1982. Mary has resided at the Hillcrest Nursing home since the fall of 1994.
She was a member of the Ladies Guild, enjoyed gardening, sewing and writing letters. She also loved to cook, baking, quilting and embroidery.
Mary is survived by her son Eugene Wavra (Jeanette) of rural Crookston, MN; daughters Darlene Lizotte (Darrel) of Mt. Vernon, WA and Sharon Woinarowicz (Mike) of Fargo, ND: daughter in law Arlene Wavra of Red Lake Falls, MN: 29 grandchildren and 69 great-grandchildren. Her twin brother Henry Steer of Crookston, MN and brother Charles Steer (Ione) of Euclid, MN: sisters Amy Hoeper of Stephen, MN; Nola Schielle of Portland, OR and Florence Rood of Crookston, MN.
She is preceded in death by her husband Dorn; son Vernon in November of 1996; two grandchildren Carrie and Brian also two great-grandchildren Erin and Angela; brother Jack Steer and an infant sister also her parents.
