Obituary

Maryann Mikkelson 87 of Thief River Falls, MN passed away on Friday, December 8, 2017 at the Good Samaritan Home in Warren, MN.

Mass of Christian burial will be held on Wednesday, December 13, 2017 at 1:30 PM in St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Thief River Falls with Father Rick Lambert Officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery, Thief River Falls, MN.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at St. Bernard's Catholic Church on Wednesday.

Maryann Mikkelson was born May 30, 1930 in a St. Cloud Hospital daughter of an unwed mother. When she was 2 days old she was brought to live with her grandparents on their farm south of Angus, MN. Barbara and Albert Dobias raised her along with their 8 children who she called her brothers and sisters.

She attended country school through 7th grade, and moved with her grandmother into Thief River Falls following her grandfather's death. That is where she met Inar Mikkelson who lived across the street, after 5 years of dating while Inar was on leave from the Army they were married.

On August 19, 1954 she was united in marriage to Inar Bennet Mikkelson at Montgomery, MN. The couple farmed west of Thief River Falls over 50 years. Inar passed away on July 17, 2013. Following the death of Inar, Maryann moved into Thief River Falls and lived there until moving to Warren in August of 2016.

Maryann loved horses and started riding at the age of 2. She was an avid gardener, both vegetables and very large flower beds. She loved cats and always had a house cat while on the farm. Maryann was a member of St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Thief River Falls, MN.

Maryann is survived by her sister-in-law Sarah Dobias of Angus, MN, half-sister Janet (Ray) Cooney of New Prague, MN. Also surviving is special family friend, who has been like a daughter to Maryann, Kathy (Todd) Fillmore and children Beth, Maggie, Sarah and Luke. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband Inar, grandparents Albert and Barbara Dobias; and all of Maryann's siblings.
