Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, July 19, 2011 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Deer River, MN with Father Paul Larson presiding. Burial will follow at Olivet Cemetery near Deer River, MN.

Visitation will be held from Noon until 1:00 PM on Tuesday, July 19, 2011 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Deer River, MN.

Mathew Peter Jansen was born on September 12, 1917 in Sauk Rapids, MN the son of Peter and Walburga (Sumbs) Jansen. He was baptized and confirmed into the Catholic faith. Mathew attended grade school and graduated from high school in Sauk Rapids, MN. He also attended one year of college at St. Cloud. Mathew turned down a full football scholarship to Notre Dame to go into the CCC.

Mathew entered into service with the United States Navy on April 10, 1944 and was Honorably Discharged on March 17, 1946.

Mathew was united in marriage to Fern Ann Hulbert from October 27, 1939 until April 8, 1989. There were five children born to this union, David, Jerry, Gloria, Duane and Thomas.

On May 19, 1990, Mathew was united in marriage to Gilmie M. "Jenny" Hayes and the couple resided in Thief River Falls, MN and Apache Junction, AZ.

Mathew worked for Bernik's in St. Cloud, MN for 20 years; and owned and operated the Arrowhead Pepsi Cola Bottling Company in Virginia, MN for 18 years.

Mathew enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was a member of the Moose Lodge, Eagle's Club, Knights of Columbus, American Legion and National Civilian Conservation Corps.

Survivors include his loving wife, Jenny of Thief River Falls, MN and Apache Junction, AZ; son, Dave Jansen of Thief River Falls, MN; daughter, Gloria (Ray) Charlton of Grafton, ND; daughter, Sue (Jim) Holt of San Tan Valley, AZ; grandchildren, Travis Jansen, Faithe (Terry) Jenson, Garret (Kara) Johnson, Tina (Chris) Munton and Scott Holt; great grandchildren, Emilly Jenson, Elyse Johnson, Aiden Johnson, Anna Johnson, Autum, Lindsey and Shelby Munton; sister, Patricia (Rodney) Haldorson; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Fern; sons, Gerald, Duane and Thomas; and sisters, Dorothy, Mildred, Miltilda, Gertrude and Louise.
