Obituary

Martha (Mattie) A. Rogge, 93, died Tuesday, August 16, 2005 at Villa St. Vincent, Crookston, MN.

Martha (Mattie) Alvina Rogge was born December 13, 1911 in Red Lake Falls, MN, the daughter of Paul A. and Bertha (Knaack) Rogge. She was confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church, Red Lake Falls, MN and graduated from Lafayette High School, Red Lake Falls in 1931. She completed teacher training and taught at the Wylie Country School for one year.

Mattie was an active member of St. John Lutheran Church all her life. As a youth she participated in the young peoples society, known then as Walther League, and served as its president for several years. Mattie later served as Sunday School teacher and participated in weekly Bible study. She enjoyed collecting owls, stamps, coins, antique post cards, flags, cowboys and horses.

Mattie was employed at the Green Lantern Caf, Red Lake Falls, as bookkeeper and waitress; Kaiser Savards Jewell Tavern, Red Lake Falls, as bookkeeper; REA and R&D Electric, Red lake Falls, in office work; and Lincoln Hotel Caf as assistant manager and bookkeeper. She also worked for the United States Department of Defense and Selective Service as executive secretary for 23 years at the offices in Red Lake Falls, Crookston and Bemidji, MN. In 1976 Mattie retired from Selective Service. She was a member of the Crookston Business and Professional Womens Club for many years and a member of RSVP (Retired Senior Volunteer Program) and church clubs.

Survived by 10 nieces and nephews and many grand-nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Arthur and Erwin and half brother, Clarence; sisters, Esther Karasiewicz, Alma Kiland, Linda Rogge, Gladys Rogge, Melba Rose and Myrtle Niemi; and nephews, Arlan and Donald Rogge.

Mattie was a most devoted and wonderful Aunt and great-aunt. She has played with, put up with, put to sleep, sung to (especially the song Little Buckaroos ), babysat, worried about, attended events for, fed cookies to and obviously loved 12 nieces and nephews and countless great nieces and nephews. We all loved her and will miss her.
