Maurits Scholin, 90, of Thief River Falls, MN died Saturday, April 15, 2006 at Valley Home in Thief River Falls, MN.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday, April 19, 2006 at Abundant Life Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, MN with Rev. Wesley Langaas and Rev. Terry Olson officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Thief River Falls.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Tuesday, April 18, 2006 with a 7:00 PM prayer service at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls.
Carl Maurits Scholin was born October 24, 1915 in Bray Township, Pennington County, MN the son of John and Clara (Anderson) Scholin. He was baptized at Black River Lutheran Church on December 12, 1915 and confirmed at Black River Lutheran Church on July 17, 1932. Maurits attended school at District 69 in Bray Township and graduated in June of 1931. He attended North Star College in Warren, MN where he graduated from on June 4, 1934.
Maurits served in the Army of the United States from July 28, 1942 until January 3, 1946. He served with the 236th AAF Base Unit Section E of the Army Air Force in Pyote, TX and his separation base was the 249th AAF Base Unit at Lowry Field, Colorado.
On December 27, 1961, Maurits was united in marriage to Beth B. Thorstad. The couple made their home in Thief River Falls where they have continued to reside. Throughout the years, Maurits farmed, worked for Brodins, was in partnership with T & S Implement for 18 ½ years, and owned and operated Scholins Sales and Service. He retired in 1977.
Maurits enjoyed traveling, fishing, woodwork, and spending time with family and grandchildren. He was a member of Abundant Life Lutheran Church, Heritage Center and enjoyed spending time volunteering at Cornerstone Christian School in Thief River Falls.
Survivors include his wife, Beth of Thief River Falls; sons, Wayne Pound of Frederick, CO and John (Laura) Scholin of Fargo, ND; daughter, Theresa Houle Lacy of San Diego, CA; 9 grandchildren, Robert (Jessica) Houle of Thief River Falls, Jeff Lacy of Minneapolis, MN, Jessica Cloward of Casper, WY, Zachery Pound of Casper, WY, Brandon, Natasha and Jessica Scholin of Fargo, ND, Naomi and Taylor Alford of Frederick, CO; great grandchildren, Tristin, Wisper and Dante Cloward of Casper, WY, Kathryn, Tyler and Savanna Houle of Thief River Falls and Jazmin Richardson of Fargo, ND; brothers, Gilbert (Boots) Scholin of Houston, TX and Burton (Therese) Scholin of Corona, CA; and sister, Wanda Magee of Bellevue, WA.
He is preceded in death by parents; brother, Melvin Scholin of Thief River Falls; sisters, Inez Nilsen of Dearborn, MI and Alice Magee of Bellevue, WA; brothers-in-law, Arnie Nilsen of Dearborn, MI, Leon Magee of Bellevue, WA and grandson, Christopher Scholin of Thief River Falls.
