Obituary

Maury T. Byron passed away on Saturday, April 5, 2014 at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Fargo, ND surrounded by his loving family. Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, April 11, 2014 at 11:00 AM in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls with Father Chuck Huck Officiating. Burial will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Red Lake Falls, MN. Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 10, 2014 from 5 - 8 PM with a 7:00 PM prayer service at Johnson Funeral Service in Red Lake Falls, MN. Maury Timothy Byron was born March 8, 1956 at Waseca, MN son of Maurice E. and Patricia (McLoone) Byron. He attended school in Worthington, then in Moorhead Graduating from Moorhead Senior High School in 1974. He then attended Alexandria Community Technical College where he received a degree in Over-the-Road truck driving. He entered the US Marine Corps in 1974, where he earned several decorations and awards; Two Rifle Expert Badges, Pistol Sharpshooter Badge, Good Conduct Medal, Certification of Commendation, Humanitarian Service Medal, and Meritorious Mast. Following his honorable discharge in 1976 he returned to Moorhead and attended Moorhead Community Technical College and received a degree in carpentry. He worked for a time in Moorhead, and then moved to California where he worked in a military supply center. Maury returned to Detroit Lakes where he continued to live until failing health forced him to move to Villa Maria in Fargo and the past year at the VA Hospital under Hospice care. Maury had a passion for the outdoors, wildlife, camping, fishing, hunting and playing cards. He is survived by his mother Patricia Byron of Red Lake Falls, MN; siblings Marcy (Steve) Schroder of Escondido, CA, Kevin (Maria) Byron of Honduras, Michael (Cindy) Byron of Grand Forks, ND, Daniel Byron of Winger, MN, Carrie (Richard) Roy of Reno, NV, Mary (Patrick) Byron of San Francisco, CA and Katherine (Robert) Huot of Thief River Falls, MN: 11 nieces and nephews Jena, Craig, Sara, Adam, Paulina, McKenzie, Samantha, Joshua, Keaton, Audrey and Alexis. Maury is preceded in death by his father Maurice Byron, Paternal grandparents Eugene and Clara Byron and Maternal grandparents Lester and Lucille McLoone.
