Mavis Adeline Roppe, 74, of Strathcona, died Wednesday, December 3, 2008 at her home.

Mavis Adeline Dahl was born on June 6, 1934 in Rollis Township to Emil and Pauline (Wolden) Dahl. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith in Gatzke, MN. Mavis attended Cloverlawn country school near Gatzke and graduated from Middle River High School in 1952. On October 11, 1952 she was united in marriage to Norman O. Roppe at First Lutheran Church in Middle River. To this union two children were born.

Mavis spent many years working on the family farm and several years at the Arctic Cat sewing factory in Karlstad. She was fond of tending to the vegetables and flowers that she grew in her garden and picking berries in the local area. She had a knack for crocheting and sewing as well as baking. Her donuts, cookies, buns, and lefse were a coveted item on the dinner table.

Mavis was a member of Gustav Adolph Lutheran Church in Strathcona, MN. where she taught Sunday School for many years and participated in the local Homemakers Club. She also served as treasurer for East Park Township for many years.

Mavis is survived by her husband Norman; children Karen (Dexter) Gonsorowski of Viking, MN; Kevin (Beth) Roppe of Strathcona, MN; grandchildren, Darcy (Mike) Hestekind of Viking, MN, Lacie (Tom) Hovland of Fertile, MN, Lynsey Roppe of Fargo, ND, Alex Roppe of Strathcona, MN; great-grandchildren Jonathan and Amanda Hestekind of Viking, MN; brothers Elmer Dahl of Argyle, MN, Arvin (Marvel) Dahl of Gatzke, MN, Larry (Erma) Dahl of Gatzke, MN; sister Janet (Duane) Lian of Grygla, MN; as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Anna, Cora, and Esther; and brother Orlan.
