Mavis Stokke, 69, died Monday, July 21, 2008 at her residence.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, July 26, 2008 at Zion Lutheran Church in Viking, MN with Rev. Rena Peterson officiating. Burial will follow at the Viking Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM Friday, July 25, 2008 with a 7:00 PM prayer service at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to the funeral on Saturday at the church.

Mavis Marray Pederson was born on May 6, 1939 in Greenbush, MN the daughter of Ole Palmer and Mae Alvina (Thompson) Pederson. She was baptized and confirmed at Bethel Lutheran Church in Greenbush, MN and graduated from Greenbush High School in 1957. Mavis earned her LPN Diploma in Thief River Falls and went to work at the Starekow Clinic in Thief River Falls.

On March 26, 1960 she was united in marriage to Lyle Allan Stokke in Greenbush, MN. The couple made their home on the Stokke family farm near Viking, MN. The couple raised turkeys, breeder hens, sold eggs to Land O Lakes, and raised small grains. In the mid-1990s Mavis went to work at Oakland Park Nursing Home in Thief River Falls where she worked for about ten years.

Mavis enjoyed reading, music, singing, cooking and enjoyed visiting with her family and friends. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Viking was active with the Ladies Aide and taught Sunday School when her children were younger.

Survivors include her husband, Lyle Allan Stokke of Viking, MN; 4 children, Denise (John) Rokke of Waseca, MN, Val (Joe) Candido of Toluca Lake, CA, Nathan (Barbara) Stokke of Geneva, IL, and Daren (Sara) Stokke of Slidell, LA; 8 grandchildren, Brendan Rokke of Bowling Green, OH, Kristen Rokke of Springfield, MO, Jacob Stokke, Luke Stokke and Noah Stokke of Slidell, LA, Cole Stokke, Sydney Stokke of Geneva, IL and Jack Candido of Toluca Lake, CA; 3 brothers, Arnold (Shirley) Pederson of Greenbush, MN, Orville Pederson of Fosston, MN, and Walter (Carol) Pederson of Roseau, MN; her identical twin sister, Marian (Kenneth) Larson of Fosston, MN; sister-in-law, Audrey Pederson; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Earl Pederson of Greenbush, MN; sister, Doris Omdahl of Greenbush, MN; and sister-in-law, Kay Pederson of Fosston.
