Maxine Sundberg, 85, of Grygla, MN died at her home surrounded by her loving family, Saturday, November 6, 2004.

Maxine Porter was born May 18, 1919 to Cassius H. and Nellie (Landers) Porter at Anoka, MN. She attended and graduated from Elk River High School in 1937 and graduated St. Cloud Teachers College in 1939. She taught rural school in the Grygla, MN area before her marriage to Robert D Sundberg on July 17, 1943 in Grygla. The couple made their home in Spruce Grove Township, Beltrami County, MN.

She held membership with Lake Agassis Retired Teachers Association. Maxine enjoyed gardening, embroidering dish towels, sewing and was an avid reader. She also enjoyed bird watching and feeding the birds. She loved animals. Maxine and Robert traveled after retirement and visited quite a bit of the country. She was an avid letter writer to family and friends, but Maxines family was always first. She looked out for her children and grandchildren and always enjoyed any occasion together. She had a quiet strength about her.

Survivors include children: Roberta (Jim) Lian Schaefer, Reynolds, ND; Glenn (Bette), Grand Forks, ND and Lee (Kandyce), Grygla, MN; nine grandchildren Greg Lian, Chris (Brandee) Lian, Patrick Lian, Sean (Jennette) Sundberg, Sara (Tim) Dudley, Andrew (Amber) Sundberg, Robert Sundberg, Ben Sundberg, Erik Sundberg, three great grandchildren, Gracie Lian, Jaxon Lian and Logan Lian; brother, Archie (Carolyn) Porter, Wenatchee, WA; sisters-in-law, Esther Sundberg and Mabel Sundberg both Grygla, MN.

Preceded in death by husband Robert, May 4, 2003; parents and brother, Charles W. Porter.
