Obituary

Maxine Wicklander, 87, died on Friday, October 23, 2015 at Havenwood Care Center in Bemidji, MN. Funeral services will be 1:00 PM on Monday, November 16, 2015 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Thief River Falls, MN with Rev. John Voelker, officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery, Thief River Falls. Visitation will be 12PM - 1PM on Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Thief River Falls. Maxine Margaret Carpenter was born May 29, 1928 in Roseau, MN to Leo and Olive (May) Carpenter. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith. She attended school and graduated from Roseau High School in 1947. After graduation, she worked as a waitress in Roseau for a few years. Maxine was united in marriage to G. Walter Wicklander, June 6, 1949 in Roseau. They made their home in Roseau for three years and then Grafton, ND for one year, before moving to Thief River Falls on April 23, 1951. To this union three children were born, Emery, Calvin and Lezlie. Maxine was a wonderful seamstress who took in sewing and alterations for over 25 years, as well as, a Shaklee distributor for over 15 years. Maxine enjoyed sewing/crafting and growing flowers. She was an avid bowler and golfer. She enjoyed several years of quilting for the church. In her younger years, Maxine and Walter sang and played guitar with the Bob Shulstad's Dance Band. Maxine sang a wonderful rendition of Loretta Lynn. Maxine battled with Parkinson's disease for over 50 years. She fought hard against the Parkinson's and nobody could tell her she couldn't do something. The later years she also battled Dementia. She kept a manicured lawn and a dandelion didn't have a chance of surviving! She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, the American Legion Auxiliary, and VFW Auxiliary. Maxine is survived by her daughter: Lezlie Grubich and her children Nicole (Jared) Hertel and Aaron Grubich of Bemidji, granddaughters: Marie Gothberg (and her son Cooper) of Thief River Falls, and: Alexis Olivia (Allen) Edwards of Los Angeles, CA, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by husband Walter on December 28, 2014, her son's Calvin and Emery, her parents; Leo and Olive Carpenter, brother; Obie Carpenter, and sister; Edna Haaby.
