Obituary





Medi Cota, 80, of Red Lake Falls, MN died on Wednesday, March 14, 2001 at his rural Red Lake Falls home. Arrangements with Johnson Funeral Service in Red Lake Falls, MN.
Mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday, March 19, 2001 at 2:00 PM in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls with Father Tim Bushy Officiating. Burial will be held at St. Dorothy Catholic Cemetery in Dorothy, MN.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, from 5 " 8 PM with a 7:30 PM prayer service at Johnson Funeral Service in Red Lake Falls and also one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.

Medi Cota was born March 7, 1921 at Crookston, MN son of Napoleon and Emelda (Huot) Cota. He was raised in the Crookston area and attended rural school. Medi entered the US Marines on October 9, 1942 and served over seas during WWII at Cape Gloucester, Peleliu and Okinawa. Following his honorable discharge on December 13, 1945 he returned to the area and was united in marriage to Esther A. Armstrong November 17, 1948 at Dorothy, MN. The couple purchased a farm near Dorothy where they farmed. Medi worked for many years at Detroiter Mobile Home in Red Lake Falls and for many years at American Crystal in Crookston retiring in 1986.
Medi was a life member of the St. Dorothy Catholic Church until its closing and since has been a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls. He was a member of the American Legion Post in Red Lake Falls. Medi and Esther were foster parents for over 30 babies.
He enjoyed playing cards, gardening, attending auctions and working with horses. He enjoyed putzing in the yard. Most of all he loved to spend time with his family.
Medi is survived by his wife Esther Cota of Red Lake Falls, MN: children Ross (Roxanne) Cota of Red Lake Falls, MN; Bonnie (John) Kliner of Harden, MT; Lois (Tom) Millette of East Grand Forks, MN; Les (Donna) Cota of St. Hilaire, MN; Norma (Jim) Johnson of Rock Springs, WY; Irene (Ira) Patnode of Red Lake Falls, MN; Jay (Janice) Cota of Belton, MO; Joyce (Steve) Larson of Newfolden, MN and Dean Cota of Bismarck, ND: 31 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Sisters Mabel (Harvey) Mercil of Crookston, MN; Leda (George) Weiland of Euclid, MN; Sr. Raphael Cota of Crookston, MN; Mildred Vilven of Crookston, MN: brothers Adelore Cota of Red Lake Falls, MN; Leo (Lorraine) Cota of St. Hilaire, MN and Edward (Cherie) Cota of Red Lake Falls, MN.
Medi is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Lyzum Cota, Henry Cota: sisters Celia Guzek, Viola Fitzsimmons, Sr. Emilda Cota.
