Melitte Bakken, of Thief River Falls, MN passed away on Thursday, December 12, 2019 at Essentia Health, Fosston, MN surrounded by her loving family.

Funeral service will be held on Monday, December 16, 2019 at 1:00 PM at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN with Reverend John Voelker Officiating. Burial will be held at Oak Ridge Cemetery west of Thief River Falls, MN. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Monday.

Melitte Gaylene Bakken was born on April 6, 1952 in Thief River Falls, MN daughter of Melvin and Gladys (Swenson) Bakken. She was raised West of Thief River Falls, MN where she was baptized and confirmed at Oak Ridge Lutheran Church. She attended school in Thief River Falls. She lived on the family farm until her early 30's when she moved into Thief River Falls and lived at Northern Lights and Hanson Home. Melitte worked at the Northern Lights Bookstore and also the DAC where she had many friends and enjoyed her work. The past six months she was a resident of Pioneer Memorial Care Center.

Melitte enjoyed music, sewing, going out for coffee and lunch. Most of all she loved and cherished the time spent with her family and friends especially her children and grandchildren.

Melitte is survived by her children Chad Bakken of Crookston, MN and Becky (Jason) May of Rush City, MN; grandchildren Mickenzie Hanson, Justice and Jayson Johnson, Dathan Pearson, Meghan and Spencer May, and Haddie Veselka; great-grandson Braxton Bahr; siblings Melville Bakken of Thief River Falls, MN, Marilyn (Gary) Smalley of Torrance, CA, Marvin Bakken of Thief River Falls, MN, Milton Bakken of Thief River Falls, MN and Myrna Dyrdal of Crookston, MN along with many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents Melvin and Gladys Bakken, sisters-in-law Marlys Bakken (wife of Marvin) and Marlys Bakken (wife of Melville); nephews Jason and Jamie Dyrdal; great-niece Marissa Dyrdal.
