Melvin Hanson, 87 of Newfolden, MN died Thursday, November 23, 2006 at Pioneer Memorial Care Center in Erskine, MN.

Funeral service will be 2 PM, Tuesday, November 28, 2006 at Evangelical Free Church, Newfolden, MN with Reverend Gary Barrett officiating. Burial will be at Westaker Cemetery, New Folden Township, Marshall County, MN.

Visitation will be one hour prior to service at the church, Tuesday.

Melvin A. Hanson was born April 16, 1919 in Marsh Grove Township, Marshall County, MN, the son of Anton Krogfoss and Clara (Mathison) Hanson. He was baptized at Westaker Free Church. He grew up in the area and attended Poplar Lane School near Newfolden, MN.

In 1967, Melvin was united in marriage to Ella Larson at the Covenant Church, Viking, MN. The couple made their home in Marsh Grove Township, Marshall County, MN. To this union 4 children were born, Elaine, LouElla, Edward and Carol.

He worked at Newfolden Co-op Locker plant, dug graves for Green Funeral Home, worked potatoes on a farm near Argyle, MN, worked on machinery for the Allis-Chalmers dealer in Newfolden and also worked for McGregors hauling grain.

Melvin was a member of Evangelical Free Church, Newfolden. He enjoyed making quilts, sewing, canning, gardening, hunting, cutting wood and making things that worked around the yard. He and Ella liked going for drives in the country with their drumstick ice cream and a can of Mountain Dew.

Melvin is survived by 4 children: Elaine Rue, Viking, MN, LouElla Hanson, Amarillo, TX, Edward Hanson, Newfolden, MN and Carol (Todd) Danielson, Plummer, MN; step-daughter, Mary Larson, Crookston, MN; 9 grandchildren: Austin, Aron, Melissa, Brittany, Brandon, Adam, Brandon, Mickenzie and Devin; sisters: Agnes Johnson, Argyle, MN, Betty Meader, Karlstad, MN and Esther Mathison, Milwaukee, MN, along with several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by wife, Ella on November 22, 2004, granddaughter: Angel Joy Danielson, parents, 8 sisters: Carrie Thompson, Hazel Bruce, Helga Kleven, Hilda Kleven, Mabel Augustine, Lillie Hanson, Annie Swenson and Alice Kalbakdalen, 4 brothers: Karinus, Carl, Clarence and Edwin
