Michael Hogenson, 57, died on Saturday, January 6, 2006 at his mothers home, rural Thief River Falls, MN.
Funeral Service will be held on Monday, January 16, 2006 " 10:30 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church, Thief River Falls, MN with Reverend Arlen Hermodson, officiating. Burial will be in the Park Ridge Cemetery, rural Thief River Falls.
Visitation will be held on Sunday from 4:00 until 7:00 PM at the Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls and on Monday one hour prior to the service in the church.
Michael was born on June 22, 1948 in Mercy Hospital in Thief River Falls, the son of Lloyd and Gladys (King) Hogenson. He was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church, Thief River Falls and attended Knox Elementary school and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1966.
On March 26, 1968, he entered the US Army where he received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Combat Infantrymans Badge, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Air Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Bronze Star Medal, One Overseas Bar and an expert rating with the M-14 Rifle and 81 Mortar. Mike was wounded by shrapnel in his shoulder and was discharged on March 25, 1970.
In 1971 he was united in marriage to Pam Holthusen in Our Saviors Lutheran Church, near Grygla.
Following his discharge, Michael worked for American Crystal Sugar in East Grand Forks for a short time, before he went to work for Burlington Northern Railroad as a track inspector, where he worked for almost 30 years. He also enjoyed working in the woods.
Michael enjoyed trapping everything possible, hunting, ice fishing, gardening, his home at Red Lake and visiting with his buddies. He was very fussy, everything always had its place and he was always full of good opinions, like it or not. He was a member of NRA and the Eagles in Thief River Falls.
Michael is survived by his children Steve (special friend Peg Johnson) Hogenson, Spicer, MN, Dawn Hogenson, Grygla and Scott Hogenson, Buffalo, MN; Grandson Zachay Hogenson; mother Gladys, Thief River Falls; sisters Marshelle (Ray) Benson, Grygla, Mary Jo (Russ) Olson, Minneapolis; brothers Marc Hogenson, Grand Forks, Marty (Linda) Hogenson, Thief River Falls, Myles (Camille) Hogenson, Roosevelt; Murray Hogenson, Thief River Falls; mother of his children Pam Hogenson, Grygla; Pegs children Reid and Kelsey and many nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father Lloyd and grandparents.
