Michael Charles Jordan, affectionately known as Mike, was born on March 16, 1945, in South Bend, Indiana. He embarked on a lifelong journey that was defined by his commitment to both his professional endeavors and the relationships he cherished. Mike's educational foundation began at Culver Military Academy, where he graduated in 1964, before furthering his studies in Finance at Indiana University.
A distinguished career in finance lay ahead of him, beginning with his work as a stock broker in Chicago. Mike’s ambition and dedication ultimately led him to establish his own investment firm, Polar Investment Counsel, in Thief River Falls, Minnesota. His professional journey was marked by his stoic demeanor and a wealth of knowledge that he generously shared with those around him. He had a remarkable ability to engage with people, helping them navigate their financial needs and imparting wisdom that spanned the complexities of the financial world.
His service to the country was an essential chapter in his life. Mike enlisted in the Marine Corps, serving honorably in Laos and Cambodia before his discharge in 1967. This service instilled in him values of discipline and perseverance, traits that he carried into his personal and professional life.
Mike was a private person who found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He treasured moments spent hunting and fishing in Canada alongside his beloved wife, Sherry Abbott, and their son, Andrew Abbott. Family gatherings were particularly special, such as when he traveled to the Virgin Islands for his niece’s wedding, creating cherished memories that highlighted the importance of family bonds.
He leaves behind a legacy not only as a successful businessman but also as a devoted husband, father, brother, and uncle. Mike is survived by his wife, Sherry Abbott; son, Andrew Abbott; brother and sister-in-law, Lee (Nancy) Jordan; and nieces Jackie (Chris) Gallo and Laura (Stephen) Catherwood.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Charles William Jordan and Esme (Schacht) Jordan, as well as his half-brother, Charles Jordan. His passing on December 16, 2025, in Rural Thief River Falls, Minnesota, marks the end of a life filled with remarkable accomplishments and enduring connections. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to know him.
