Michael Nessen Minneapolis, MN formerly of Thief River Falls, MN age 56 died suddenly on Wednesday, November 19, 2014 at his residence. Visitation will be held from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM with a 4:00 PM prayer service and time of sharing officiating on Saturday, December 6, 2014 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN. Burial will be at Bethany Cemetery rural Thief River Falls, MN. Michael Scott Nessen was born on May 13, 1958 in Thief River Falls, MN the son of Chester Silas and Marlene Yvonne (Jablinske) Nessen. He was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, MN. He attended school in Thief River Falls graduating from Lincoln High School in 1976. After high school, Mike worked for L.B. Hartz washing trucks, Best Western, and other various jobs before moving to Minneapolis, MN. He worked at Olympia Gym, Watershow Productions and also worked security at the Cabooze. Mike loved lifting weights and working out and this led to his nickname, "Big Mike." He also enjoyed wood carvings, Indian art, grilling out, traveling, snowmobiling with his brother, Jon, had a great sense of humor, enjoyed spending time with his nephews when they were growing up, and visiting with his family and friends. Over the years, Mike had several German shepherds which he loved as his family; their names were Brutus II, Bear, Preacher, Wolfgang, & Riva; along with his cat, Parker. Mike had a strong independent personality which he was fortunate to inherit from his mother. Survivors include his mother, Marlene (Duane) Kuzel of Grand Forks, ND; brother, Jon (Cindy) Nessen of Thief River Falls; nephews, Tyler (Nicole) Nessen of Sioux Falls, SD, Parker Nessen, Tanner Nessen & Brady Nessen all of Thief River Falls; uncles & aunts, Shirley (Harvey) Hemmestvedt, Beverly Jablinske, Kathy (Tom) Opdahl, Roger (Deb) Jablinske, Alan "Bud" (Linda) Homme, Robert Homme, Orlin (Kathy) Homme; special friend of many years, Sharon Jonas of Minneapolis, MN; and many other cousins, relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his father, Chet in 2002; cousin, Chad Homme; uncles, Roy (Sharon) Jablinske and Steve Homme; grandparents, Wilbert (Myrtle) Jablinske and Bob (Annie) Homme.
